Your Purpose:
You will be performing a limited variety of highly repetitive duties to load and secure steel rail spike products into railroad gondola cars, boxcars, or truck trailers for shipment to customer location. You will assist in servicing production lines and transfer finished products to temporary storage locations or dock loading platform.
Your Work:
- Operate a forklift to transfer finished products from the production line and secure with steel banding or shrink-wrap material to palletize product for shipment.
- Move palletized material to a temporary storage inspection station or loading dock.
- Disengage rail car mover lever to position boxcar or gondola into the loading position.
- Prepare a rail car or other specified vehicles to receive the product for shipment. Attach steel strapping material to boxcar interior walls in accordance with standard operating procedures and methods. Ship product palletized or loose as per customer order.
- Operate forklift, or handheld, push-button pendant crane, with or without magnet, to load specified product into the proper vehicle.
- Operate a forklift or pendant crane to unload incoming steel and machine shop supplies, pallets, empty kegs, and steel banding strips. Place supply items at the proper storage locations. Distribute pallets to the production line staging area.
- Check and verify steel heat and bundle numbers, weight, and carbon content as indicated on the shipping invoice; check off an item or indicate shortages and forward to office personnel for processing.
- Operate forklift to empty scrap buckets and return to the production line.
- As directed, assist on the production line as a relief person.

AS THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE, YOU WILL
- Perform statistical analysis of energy consumption throughout the process to find opportunities for energy savings
- Collect and analyze production data to determine improvement opportunities in a steel mill
- Develop and implement solutions for production problems in the reheating, rolling or finishing process
- Perform daily audits of process to report if standards are current and effective
- Other responsibilities as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Materials Science or Metallurgy Engineering or relevant engineering focus
- Must be highly motivated, proactive, collaborative, and willing to handle new challenges
- Statistical analysis and knowledge of manufacturing methods are an asset
- Previous internship experience preferred

Overview
The role of the Sr. Industrial Controls Engineer is primarily two-fold. First, to be a great team member who demonstrates high levels of honesty, integrity, and ownership in everything they do. Second, is to ensure the success of the team by SAFELY performing maintenance, programming, and upgrade tasks on Level II software systems, as well as proposing and implementing innovative solutions to challenges in the steel making process and business. Your Purpose:
You will report to the Commodity Manager. The primary function of this position is to effectively coordinate and manage the strategic procurement process by developing effective supply programs that decrease the total cost of ownership. These activities include but are not limited to the development and execution of procurement strategies, bid process and negotiations, team-based supplier selection and development, and contract management. The Mobile Equipment Operator yard will operate mobile crane, magnet crane, mobile shear, and stationary shear to process scrap materials, load and unload scrap from trucks or railcars, and move scrap within the yard as required.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follow all established Gerdau Safety, Environmental, and Routine procedures specific to the yard.
- Inspects mobile shear, magnet crane, and stationary shear daily and documents on checklists to ensure equipment is maintained and in proper working order.
- Performs daily preventive maintenance on equipment to ensure proper working order such as lubrication, greasing, fueling, and keeping cab clean.
- Inspects for proper scrap grade and safety and environmental concerns such as tanks, cylinders, etc. while shearing.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follow all of the established Gerdau safety, environmental, and routine procedures specific to the yard
- Operate the fork-lift while progressing towards loader operation and material handler operation to assist in the loading, off-loading, and sorting of scrap materials
- Inspect incoming scrap against quality and environmental standards with a progression towards grading and purchasing scrap material
- Apply deductions to non-conforming materials through effective communication with the scale house or yard inspector

Gerdau is looking for an experienced Electrician to undertake a variety of tasks related to the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical equipment. Job Summary:
Must be responsible for ensuring billet identification, traceability, and quality. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Visually inspect and count billets entering the furnace during each heat.

The Gerdau Long Steel North America (GLN) MRM Logistics Manager I is responsible for local carrier management, fleet management, fleet maintenance, freight procurement, support customer and commercial requirements, optimizing truck loading schedules for the Recycling Division. The MRM Logisitics Manager will liaison with carriers, external customers, commercial, and mill operations teams. The Logisitics Manager will define which carrier will be assigned to a given load based on cost, service level agreement and capabilities. This position manages drivers, dispatcher and analyst.
Annual Shipments:
The major role of this position is to assure that all Gerdau scrap operations and mills have effective in-bound and/or out-bound transportation services at the lowest possible cost to meet transportation requirements. The incumbent is responsible for developing methods and procedures for the transportation of materials to Gerdau locations. The MRM Logistics Manager I is responsible for ensuring that each location and scrap supplier (when bought on a picked up basis) is executing the timely delivery of customer orders/mill shipments, while minimizing the cost. The incumbent must develop good relationships with the area rail representatives, wide variety of motor carriers and occasionally barge carriers. The incumbent must be an active member of the logistics management team working on projects, identifying and implementing best practices, and executing logistics policies.
Qualifications for this position include a four year college degree in a relevant area combined with 10 years experience in transportation routing and scheduling. Incumbent must have experience with contract negotiations for carrier services, claims resolution, and fleet management. Incumbent should possess solid presentation skills combined with good interpersonal and organizational skills. The incumbent should possess a broad knowledge of the transportation industry. Incumbent must be familiar with all phases, procedures, and modes of transportation, including management procedures, and techniques.
The MRM Logistics Manager I reports directly to the MRM Director of Operations. The incumbent will analyze the transportation procedures to develop and utilize methods for ensuring that each location is executing the timely delivery of customer orders while minimizing cost. Tools to be used in this analysis include evaluation of freight classifications, tariff rates, operating capabilities consistent with delivery schedules and deadlines, and attainment of a high level of satisfaction of customer delivery requirements. The incumbent also compiles schedules of existing rates and routes for analysis of possible savings in transpiration costs and maintains the company’s rate manuals. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring local Freight Market Intelligence is obtained, recorded, and maintained according to the Global Freight Market Intelligence guidelines.
The incumbent is responsible for negotiating price and contract terms to meet the transportation needs within the assigned area. This position determines the appropriate transportation mode to be utilized and is responsible for selecting and hiring logistic service providers. Reviews current methods and means of transportation and provides recommendations on ways to improve service and reduce costs.
Responsible for administering carrier freight claims to include investigation and resolution of claims and service problems. The incumbent must have the ability to effectively communicate ideas; such as issues involving changes in carrier contracts, laws, regulations, and corporate policies, to various parties to include employees at all levels, lawyers, and federal government representatives. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Act as Scale Coordinator to properly weigh incoming and outgoing that trucks deliver scrap.
- Utilize electronic scale to obtain a gross weight for the load using the weighing system, and coordinate unloading destination with yard personnel.
- Consult with the scrap representatives and the scrap supplier for clarification on scrap grade prices.
- Complete the weighing process to determine traffic and net weight for the load.
- Process loads of scrap moved by weighing the trucks in accordance with standard processing procedures.
- Operates forklift to move scrap metal as needed.
- Processes non-ferrous products and runs alligator shear and balers.
- Provide daily reporting of radiation detection.
- Using established company procedures, visually inspect scrap for grade/quality.
- Notifies supervisor when dirty cars or trucks are identified or cars or trucks that monitoring devices indicate contain explosive or radioactive materials.
- Compile and record information related to scrap inventory.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Ability to accurately multitask in a fast pace environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively when dealing with customers, carriers and company drivers.
- Able to recognize various materials and develop viable distribution plan for customers on the scale.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Related work experience is an asset

Job Summary:
The Yard Operator has a variety of duties and a broad skill set that makes this position an important part of operational needs. The Yard Operator requires knowledge of scrap grading, or have the ability to learn. The Yard Operator will assist in several aspects of daily operational needs such as scrap inspection, ferrous and non-ferrous purchasing, mobile equipment operation, and performing general maintenance duties.
The Yard Operator will be expected to safely operate a material handling crane or loader in order to accomplish daily tasks. They must communicate regularly with the scale, supervisor, other coworkers, and customers about the quality of material and shipping requirements.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Follow all established Gerdau Safety, Environmental, and Routine procedures specific to the yard.
2. Work involves a variety of tasks, simple through moderately complex in nature, requiring some care to ensure correct procedures are being followed.
3. Ensure that all incoming scrap is scanned for radiation and that all material that fails the scan is quarantined and the appropriate personnel are notified.
4. Operate the loader and/or the material handler to assist in loading and unloading scrap material, while following the quality standards of Gerdau and the customer.
5. Ensure that all incoming scrap inspected against quality, and environmental standards and appropriate deductions and downgrades are applied. Communicate findings with the scale in a timely manner.
6. Inspect and verify scrap for grade and quality. Identify deductions and downgrades.
7. Ensure that all outbound materials meets safety and quality standards.
8. Perform and document daily Routine Equipment Care (REC).
9. Detect and report faulty material, environmental hazards, safety, and/or improper operation of plant equipment or machinery; refer questionable and unusual matters to proper supervision. Maintain work area and equipment in a clear and orderly fashion.
10. Provide excellent customer service.
11. Promote and practice the core values of Gerdau.
12. Participation in daily safety routine.
Locations with Rail:
1. For Operations that have rail; shift full and empty cars, operate locomotive, activate switches, couple and uncouple cars, and set brakes or wheel blocks as requested, in accordance with standard operating procedures.
Additional Responsibilities:
1. Assist in monthly inventory counts (where applicable)
2. Assist maintenance personnel in the performance of equipment repairs as required or directed.
3. Operate the Baler Operation.
4. Assist in nonferrous processing; including segregation of materials to upgrade products. For example: Copper, Brass, Aluminum, etc.
5. Assist co-workers in daily operational duties that are essential to the yard in terms of safety, efficiency, and profitability.
6. Stage and remove material for torching with a material handler (where applicable).
7. Problem solving input and contributions as required.

ABOUT THE ROLE:
We are looking to hire two (2) Licensed Mechanic at our Whitby Shredder location. The successful candidate will possess one of the following licenses: 310S, 310T, or 433A.
WHAT GERDAU OFFERS YOU:
- Hourly Rate: $32.80/hr.
- Shift Schedule: straight days.
- Pay Schedule: weekly, on Fridays.
- Overtime: weekly overtime opportunities. The first two (2) hours worked above 40 weekly hours are paid at time and one half. Authorized hours of overtime in excess of two (2) hours are paid at double time. Any hours worked on Sunday are paid at double time.

WHAT THE POSITION ENTAILS:
Perform basic to moderately complex maintenance and repair operations necessary to keep plant property, equipment, and tools in good operating condition; diagnose problems and work in many varied and diversified capacities required in general maintenance, overhaul, and repair of plant equipment, processes and facilities. Report/check sheets for all unusual circumstances, safety and repair issues or concerns to Maintenance supervisor. Other duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Effectively and efficiently diagnose, dismantle, repair, lubricate, reassemble, or otherwise perform general maintenance activities to include basic to moderately complex, pipefitting, burner/torching, millwright assembler, and installer skills and abilities.
- Diagnose causes of malfunctions by sight, sound, or actions of plant equipment, machinery or processes.
- Start, observe, operate, and otherwise activate equipment to diagnose, detect or verify malfunction or corrective actions taken in accordance with standard operating procedures, Job aids
- Perform the division preventive maintenance program. Abide by Cardinal Safety Rules (site specific) LOTOTO. Inspect, adjust, clean, and/or lubricate equipment as normal part of preventive maintenance program.
- Tear down, replace, repair, install, and assemble equipment, parts, components, and accessories. Develop and fabricate accessory fixtures or guards for machines and equipment. Adjust machine mechanisms such as feed, speed, power input or output. Report or refer complex repairs or questions to Maintenance supervisor.
- Operation of mobile equipment including but not limited to: Counterbalance forklift, Boom-lift/Aerial Work Platform, Working at Heights.
- Repair portable power tools, trash/sump pumps, and perform other duties and work assignments as required and directed.
- Remain current in technical changes or equipment designs by attending classes or participating in company training programs, which will require limited domestic travel and possibly travel abroad.
- Work closely with other mechanics or outside contractors to perform simple, moderate and complex repairs and installation
- Detect and report defective material, improper operation, and unusual conditions to proper supervision. Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition. Follow prescribed safety regulations and practices.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Coordinate plant construction activities as required for installation of new plant equipment or modification to existing equipment. The construction coordination may involve maintenance personnel, production personnel, and/or outside contractors. The Project Engineer will coordinate meetings as needed with the personnel who requested or will be affected by the new or modified equipment. Before the installation or modification of the equipment the Project Engineer may request quotations, develop installation schedules, and assist with fabrication details. This position must also ensure that the maintenance or construction personnel have accurate reference materials to install all equipment conduit, wiring, control desks, MCC’s switch gears, etc. required for a successful electrical outage.
The major challenge of this position is to ensure that equipment purchases and designs are durable, economical, and easy to fabricate and install. Installation or modification of equipment is to be accomplished with the minimum amount of outage duration and be on or below the approved budget.
The Project Engineer job functions may involve high and low-voltage distribution systems and equipment, AC & DC drive systems, instrumentation and control, programmable logic and computer control, and electrical machinery. Within these areas, work may include design specification, purchasing, supervision of construction and installation, commission, and troubleshooting of new or modified equipment.
Assist the Environmental Engineer, Sr. Project Engineer, and or Engineering Manager with miscellaneous environmental and engineering activities.
Some work items may require the services of outside engineering consultants. In this case, this position will be involved in establishing design objectives, prepare engineering bid specifications, and competitively bid the work. After receiving approval to perform the work the engineer will coordinate and monitor activities of the consultant to ensure equipment compatibility with the departments which will operate and maintain the new equipment.
Maintain equipment files and resource materials such as drawings, instruction manuals, test data, design criteria, and specifications. These materials are to be organized to facilitate their use for three key purposes: as a maintenance aid, as a basis for equipment performance evaluation, and as a reference for new design and installation. These resources are to be made available to maintenance personnel to maximize their value in troubleshooting, operations, and preventive maintenance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
- 5-6 years’ experience working in an industrial/manufacturing/construction environment
- Experience with Allen Bradley control systems
- Experience with WonderWare systems preferred
- Experience with industrial automation troubleshooting and repair preferred
- Willingness to travel, including internationally
- Strong background in mechanical systems is preferred
- Steel mill experience – preferred, but not required
- Leadership skills - ability to manage construction vendors and contractors

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Located at our North York Metals Recycling Yard

Job Summary:
The laborer is an entry level position, reflecting employees with no previous knowledge or experience related to scrap metals and recycling. The laborer must have the ability to learn and a strong work ethic. The laborer will assist in several aspects of daily operations such as scrap inspection, sortation, and general yard maintenance as directed.
Under the safety standards of Gerdau the laborer will learn to operate mobile equipment and perform general maintenance duties on machinery. The laborer must have strong communication skills and use them at all times to ensure safety among co-workers, truck drivers, peddlers, and contractors.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follow all of the established Gerdau safety, environmental, and routine procedures specific to the yard
- Operate the fork-lift while progressing towards loader operation and material handler operation to assist in the loading, off-loading, and sorting of scrap materials
- Inspect incoming scrap against quality and environmental standards with a progression towards grading and purchasing scrap material
- Apply deductions to non-conforming materials through effective communication with the scale house or yard inspector
- Perform and document daily Routine Equipment Care (REC)
- Detect and report faulty tools, equipment, environmental hazards, and safety hazards to a supervisor
- Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly fashion
- Provide excellent customer service
- Promote and practice the core values of Gerdau
Locations with Rail:
- For Operations that have rail; shift full and empty cars, operate locomotive, activate switches, couple and uncouple cars, and set brakes or wheel blocks as requested, in accordance with standard operating procedures.

- Ensure non-conforming objects have been removed from incoming scrap vehicles such as gas tanks (drained and removed), propane tanks, and batteries
- Ensure radioactive materials are removed from inbound/outbound scrap material and quarantined properly
- General house-keeping duties: sweep shop area and removal of garbage

You Have:
- A degree from an accredited nursing school, preferably a Bachelor of Nursing and current registered nursing license in the state of North Carolina.
- 3-5 years of Clinical Nursing experience
- Occupational health and safety experience and OSHA training preferred but not necessary.
- Prior experience with North Carolina Workers Compensation case management and federal laws related to Worker’s Compensation, and legislation regarding confidentiality.
- Ability to analyze and make sound judgements to accurately document and maintain appropriate confidentiality of medical records.
- Ability to communicate effectively with employees, physicians/medical professionals, and other outside parties.
- Knowledge of state and federal laws related to Worker's Compensation and legislation regarding confidentiality.
- Intermediate proficiency with MS Office suite
- Possess excellent written communication skills and the ability to document decision, agreements, and orders made.
Your Purpose:
Reporting directly to the Health & Safety Manager, you are in daily contact with managers, supervisors, administrative staff, hourly employees, contractors, & safety representatives regarding injuries, first aid treatment, annual hearing tests, wellness initiatives (including EAP), first aid kit supplies and disability management issues.
Your Work:
- Provide immediate emergency care for traumatic and non-traumatic injured workers and contractors including assessing, directing, and transporting or coordinating transport offsite for injured workers for medical treatment as required.
- Coordinate and assist the Safety Manager in case management for all Workers’ Compensation claims.
- Work with the Safety Manager to develop preventative measures to reduce work place injuries.
- Conduct respirator fit tests, hearing tests, heavy metal blood draws, PFT tests, crane physicals, and vision tests.
- Maintain, sustain, and ensure compliance with select Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Charlotte Mill, and Gerdau Corporate Safety guidelines and standards.
- Standardize/develop Charlotte nursing, injury response, and North Carolina Workers Compensation practices and policies.
- Develop First Responder knowledge through continued safety trainings including, but not limited to, First Aid / CPR / Ergonomics / BLS.
- Assist HR in conducting post accident and random drug/alcohol testing as directed by the HR Manager.
- Assist Safety Manager in performing contractor and new hire safety trainings.
- Champion employee wellness programs.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.

Gerdau is currently seeking a Labourer for the Winnipeg Recycling yard location.
Responsibilities include:
A variety of physical labour tasks and activites at various work stations throughout the worksite which includes working a forklift and skidsteer:
- Primary focus is customer oriented; greeting customers, documenting purchases, determining grades of scrap
- Working with other yard personnel to facilitate accurate stock piling
- Weigh materials and process for sale and shipping
- Safety minded at all tasks
- General yard housekeeping duties
The ideal candidate:
- Will be able to work day shift (Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm). Schedule may change.
