Job Summary:
Operate cab locomotive to move scrap cars to desired locations in the scrap yard and in
the melt shop, while following all safety policies and procedures.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Follow directions from the switchman.
2. Operate locomotive within the plant, often with trains in excess of fifteen (15) cars, in
accordance with policy and procedures for loading and unloading of scrap metals
and/or product.
3. Maintain communication with internal departments and coworkers through two-way
radios and hand signals.
4. Assist with training of other operators.
Additional Responsibilities:
1. Perform daily preventative maintenance on vehicles and mobile equipment, which
may include fueling, cleaning, and checking/adding fluids as needed.
2. Operate mobile equipment to lift and transport materials, including loaders, cranes,
man-lifts, forklifts, and dump trucks.
3. Follow all PPE requirements as well as safety rules and guidelines for all tasks being
performed.

BASIC FUNCTION:
This position is responsible for providing leadership guidance on establishing a productive, high performing, and safety conscious working cell environment. The major role of this job is to focus on all aspects related to safety, environmental, production, cost, quality, and people management through the continuous application of GBS principles for area/cell of responsibility.
DIMENSIONS:
This position is responsible for the training, guidance, and performance evaluation of a team of 2 or more under area/cell of responsibility. The typical average size of a team is 20 employees.
NATURE AND SCOPE
The major role of this job is to ensure routine management efforts are followed and opportunities for improvement in processes, products, and production within the area of responsibility are identified. The Routine Facilitator I is responsible for ensuring standardization of processes within the area of responsibility. These duties will include needs assessments, auditing, coaching of production/quality improvement programs and standards, ITS training, 5S improvements, development and implementation of cost and environmental control goals, development and implementation of new and current preventive maintenance and safety management processes and procedures.
Qualifications for this position include a two year college degree in Engineering, Business Administration or Material Science combined with 4 to 6 years experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment with exposure to standardization and production quality methods. Incumbent must have a working knowledge of the steel manufacturing methods and techniques involving the use of heavy mill machinery and related equipment. Previous qualifying experience in scrap processing, melting, casting, rolling, maintenance, finishing, shipping/warehouse operations, and supervisory/facilitation a must. Successful candidate will demonstrate a basic knowledge of the business system and the use of complex technical and engineering processes. Requires the ability to train and guide people. The incumbent should possess solid presentation abilities combined with good interpersonal and organizational skills. People management skills a must.
This position directly reports to the department superintendent. The incumbent will coordinate efforts with the different functional groups both within area of responsibility and other areas of the location. The incumbent will be assigned to an area of responsibility (i.e., safety, cost, training, quality, etc.) or a specific cell. The incumbent should be detail oriented and must be comfortable dealing with associates at all levels within the organization.
The Routine Facilitator I will be responsible for standardization administration as it relates to processes in control standards, management standards, routine procedures, job aids, one point lesions, and process guarantee tables. This position is responsible for ensuring that standardization processes are properly documented and training is provided to personnel responsible for operating in accordance with the standards. This position is accountable for auditing performance, documenting findings, and developing corrective action plans. These duties will include standard compliance audits as well as development and implementation of new and existing standards.
The incumbent lead Failure Analysis when significant problems occur and compares performance to existing standards. This job is responsible for making appropriate updates to standards when needed. This job is responsible for conducting performance audits against standards and developing appropriate corrective action to ensure compliance of standards. The incumbent must possess good communication skills, have the ability to articulate ideas, give feedback, and resolve conflicts, Must be results oriented and have the ability to motivate others.
The incumbent must perform the above mentioned duties and responsibilities in accordance with all Federal, State, and Local environmental regulations. Employees must also report any situation that may have a detrimental impact to human health or the environment to their immediate supervisor.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Duties will include controlling the work flow within the area of responsibility, assist in minimizing downtime/breakdowns and maximizing productivity, monitor performance, managing routine processes, and training employees in routine management standards.
- Facilitate training sessions for operators under a maintained training matrix on the compliance standards, routine methodologies, tools, policies, practices, and processes.

Job Summary:
The laborer is an entry level position, reflecting employees with no previous knowledge or experience related to scrap metals and recycling. The laborer must have the ability to learn and a strong work ethic. The laborer will assist in several aspects of daily operations such as scrap inspection, sortation, and general yard maintenance as directed.
Under the safety standards of Gerdau the laborer will learn to operate mobile equipment and perform general maintenance duties on machinery. The laborer must have strong communication skills and use them at all times to ensure safety among co-workers, truck drivers, peddlers, and contractors.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follow all of the established Gerdau safety, environmental, and routine procedures specific to the yard
- Operate the fork-lift while progressing towards loader operation and material handler operation to assist in the loading, off-loading, and sorting of scrap materials
- Inspect incoming scrap against quality and environmental standards with a progression towards grading and purchasing scrap material
- Apply deductions to non-conforming materials through effective communication with the scale house or yard inspector
- Perform and document daily Routine Equipment Care (REC)
- Detect and report faulty tools, equipment, environmental hazards, and safety hazards to a supervisor
- Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly fashion
- Provide excellent customer service

Locations with Rail:
- For Operations that have rail; shift full and empty cars, operate locomotive, activate switches, couple and uncouple cars, and set brakes or wheel blocks as requested, in accordance with standard operating procedures.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Ensure non-conforming objects have been removed from incoming scrap vehicles such as gas tanks (drained and removed), propane tanks, and batteries
- Ensure radioactive materials are removed from inbound/outbound scrap material and quarantined properly
- General house-keeping duties: sweep shop area and removal of garbage
- Assist in non-ferrous sorting and processing as directed by non-ferrous operator
- Assist co-workers in general operational duties that are essential to the yard in terms of safety, efficiency, and profitability
