Job Summary:

The laborer is an entry level position, reflecting employees with no previous knowledge or experience related to scrap metals and recycling. The laborer must have the ability to learn and a strong work ethic. The laborer will assist in several aspects of daily operations such as scrap inspection, sortation, and general yard maintenance as directed.

Under the safety standards of Gerdau the laborer will learn to operate mobile equipment and perform general maintenance duties on machinery. The laborer must have strong communication skills and use them at all times to ensure safety among co-workers, truck drivers, peddlers, and contractors.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Follow all of the established Gerdau safety, environmental, and routine procedures specific to the yard

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Roll Shop Supervisor, this position's main focus will be to set up and operate a computer numerically controlled lathe to machine all types of new and used rolls to finished size and contour for all sections rolled in the Mill.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

- Plans working procedures from instructions, prints, computer programs, and work orders

- Slings rolls and places them in a lathe using a crane

- Centers and fastens roll in the lathe

- Barrels new rolls

- Selects and profiles cutting tools for the job in accordance with hardness, machinability, desired contour, and surface of the roll to be turned and set up in the tool holder

- Sets up and operates CNC lathe to turn any type of roll to finished size within close tolerances

- Selects and adjusts speeds and feeds for material to be cut

- Turns rolls to specifications and intermittently checks dimensions for compliance using a protractor, calipers, micrometers, rulers, straights edge, pass templates, and thickness gauges.

- Observes turning of roll, interrupts upon deviation from specifications, and corrects minor errors in a computer program by manually overriding computer

- Operates lathe manually to complete finishing of the roll such as taking out points, blending radii, and using plugs

- Operates milling machine to cut deformations in rolls

- Operates electric discharge machine (EDM) to brand rolls

- Inspects and lubricate equipment

Qualifications for this position include a four year college degree in Engineering combined with up to 8 to 10 years of industrial experience. The incumbent should be a specialist in at least 1 engineering field as well as have extensive training and experience in project management or construction. Successful candidate must be able to apply engineering fundamentals to the continuous improvement efforts of CAPEX, independently assess bids for both installation and equipment, and maximize the efficiency of the overall department operations.

Your Purpose:

Will assist the brick crew with removing refractories from used ladles, tundishes, etc. using heavy pry bars and pneumatic tools, shovel, and dump out brick and slag refuse.
Will assist in cleaning furnace and surrounding pit area, ladle car track area, tilt cylinders, casting spray changer, and billet run-out area during downtime using hand tools such as a shovel, picks, crowbar, cutting torch, and broom.
Will assist in hooking up, setting and unhooking ladles, materials, etc. in conjunction with the crane.
Will assist casting crew with torch cutting scrap billets when necessary.
Will assist the operator of the track mobile in switching scrap into the stock house.
Will assist furnace crew, ladle crew, and casting crew as necessary, cross-training in other melt shop jobs, and performing other duties and assignments as required and directed.
Will inspect and report faulty material, environmental hazards, and/ or improper operation of plant equipment or machinery; refer questionable and unusual matters to proper supervision.

Your Purpose:

Operate a forklift to transfer finished products from the production line and secure with steel banding or shrink-wrap material to palletize product for shipment.

Check and verify steel heat and bundle numbers, weight, and carbon content as indicated on the shipping invoice; check off an item or indicate shortages and forward to office personnel for processing.

Job Summary:

The laborer is an entry level position, reflecting employees with no previous knowledge or experience related to scrap metals and recycling. The laborer must have the ability to learn and a strong work ethic. The laborer will assist in several aspects of daily operations such as scrap inspection, sortation, and general yard maintenance as directed.

Under the safety standards of Gerdau the laborer will learn to operate mobile equipment and perform general maintenance duties on machinery. The laborer must have strong communication skills and use them at all times to ensure safety among co-workers, truck drivers, peddlers, and contractors.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Follow all of the established Gerdau safety, environmental, and routine procedures specific to the yard
Operate the fork-lift while progressing towards loader operation and material handler operation to assist in the loading, off-loading, and sorting of scrap materials
Inspect incoming scrap against quality and environmental standards with a progression towards grading and purchasing scrap material

Job Summary:

Perform Metallurgical Services functions through chemical analysis of heat samples, hot billet inspection and inventory control, and managing billet hot charging. Maintain and operate spectrometer, Leco analyzer, and related equipment to examine the chemical composition of heats from melting and casting. Disposition non conforming heats as needed. Maintain and operate the slag analyzer and related equipment for determination of slag composition in melting. Inspect hot billets at the caster for surface and dimensional conformity to orders. Coordinate hot charging of heats with the mill. Assess product grade change samples to maintain traceability during rolling. Record, verify and submit test and inspection results to supervisor.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Prepare and perform chemistry tests for samples taken from EAF, ladle, and billets. Verify and discuss test results to Melter and check against product specifications.
Work with the melter to disposition non conforming heats or portions of heats.
Inspect hot billets as they are cast for dimensions and quality and report results to the supervisor. Notify the operators of any non conformance.
Maintain and operate pad grinder, cutoff saw, ARL spectrometer, Leco C/S analysis unit, slag analyzer and weigh scales.
Calibrate equipment per schedule.
Enter test results and sample information into personal computer.
Coordinate hot charging of billets during rolling.
Check heat samples for radiation.
Assess grade change samples from the mill and alert supervisor of any discrepancies.

Actively participate and support 5S initiatives in the work area.

Primary Function

Your Work

Operate standard factory-equipped diesel straight truck and tractor with roll-off trailers, dump trailers and van trailers to pick-up a variety of steel products and accessory items from Gerdau steel suppliers.
Follow standard or prescribed methods or procedures. Work involves a complete range of duties, somewhat repetitive and routine in nature, requiring considerable care to drive tractor/trailer vehicle in a correct and safe manner, properly loading of trucks, and compliance with all DOT laws, rules, and regulations.

Job Summary:

The Yard Operator has a variety of duties and a broad skill set that makes this position an important part of operational needs. The Yard Operator requires knowledge of scrap grading, or have the ability to learn. The Yard Operator will assist in several aspects of daily operational needs such as scrap inspection, ferrous and non-ferrous purchasing, mobile equipment operation, and performing general maintenance duties.

The Yard Operator will be expected to safely operate a material handling crane or loader in order to accomplish daily tasks. They must communicate regularly with the scale, supervisor, other coworkers, and customers about the quality of material and shipping requirements.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Follow all established Gerdau Safety, Environmental, and Routine procedures specific to the yard.
Work involves a variety of tasks, simple through moderately complex in nature, requiring some care to ensure correct procedures are being followed.
Ensure that all incoming scrap is scanned for radiation and that all material that fails the scan is quarantined and the appropriate personnel are notified.
Operate the loader and/or the material handler to assist in loading and unloading scrap material, while following the quality standards of Gerdau and the customer.
Ensure that all incoming scrap inspected against quality, and environmental standards and appropriate deductions and downgrades are applied. Communicate findings with the scale in a timely manner.
Inspect and verify scrap for grade and quality. Identify deductions and downgrades.
Ensure that all outbound materials meets safety and quality standards.
Perform and document daily Routine Equipment Care (REC).
Detect and report faulty material, environmental hazards, safety, and/or improper operation of plant equipment or machinery; refer questionable and unusual matters to proper supervision. Maintain work area and equipment in a clear and orderly fashion.

Receive, process and visually inspect incoming scrap with the ability to determine the grade in accordance with established procedures and specifications.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Verify and document supplier’s contents by visually inspecting load against the weight ticket obtained from the supplier. Apply knowledge of the different types of scrap in order to accept, downgrade, or reject the load as needed. Responsible for documenting any non-conforming material.

Job Summary:

Bachelor’s degree in a Business related discipline (Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, International Business, Supply Chain or Management, and other related disciplines)
College graduate - recently completed or be in the process of completing degree before program starts
Record of high academic achievement (Minimum GPA 3.0)
Preference for a degree related internship experience
A maximum of 3 years full time work experience
Well-rounded applicants with leadership roles in student organizations or extra-curricular activities
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring current or future sponsorship for employment
Willing to relocate to various locations within the United States during the length of the program
