BASIC FUNCTION:
Primary functions are tax compliance for the Company and its subsidiaries. Primarily responsible for the preparation of all sales and use, property, fuel, intangible federal excise, and occupational tax returns and timely payment of associated taxes. Communicates effectively with taxing authorities to resolve any disputed items. Assists with sales and use, property, and fuel tax audits. Assists in preparation of various tax analysis, general ledger account reconciliation, tax accrual calculations, and other duties as assigned by the State/Local Tax Manager or the Senior Tax Accountant.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
The Tax Accountant reports directly to the State/Local Tax Manager who reports to the Director of Taxes. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
This position is responsible for:
- The preparation of the Company’s sales and use tax, real and personal property tax, fuel oil and mileage tax returns.
- State and Local tax compliance by completing and filing all returns, tax research and analysis as necessary to maintain compliance.
- Registration and renewal with state and local entities where the Company has locations, has employees or does business to obtain business licenses, tax identification numbers, etc.
- Filing annual reports as required by various state and local entities where the Company has a business presence.
- Assisting with sales/use tax audits, real/personal property tax audits, etc. and negotiating with taxing authorities on behalf of the Company to minimize assessments and taxes while remaining in compliance with tax regulations.
- Calculating and reconciling to the general ledger, property tax accruals for all Company locations and cost centers and communicating significant changes or variances to division managers and controllers.
- Filing tax refund claims with taxing jurisdictions where the company is due tax credits or tax refunds.
- Reconciling sales and use tax liability general ledger accounts on a regular monthly basis.
- Assisting corporate and division personnel with local tax issues, tax research and recommendations.
- Providing feedback to management on strategies and ideas to minimize taxes and/or reduce expenses while remaining in compliance with all tax laws and regulations.
- Maintaining tax records as required by Company polices and appropriate tax regulations.

Job Scope:
This position should have a broad knowledge of tax regulations and procedures plus a general knowledge of accounting and accounting principles. The position requires a four year degree in accounting or related business field, plus 3 to 5 years of hands-on work experience preferably in the manufacturing environment.
This position requires excellent communication skills, both oral and written, to communicate with taxing authorities and to interface with upper and middle management of the Company.
This position requires proficient computer skills in MS Office, including Outlook, Word, Access, Power Point, and especially Excel. Also, this position requires the use of software packages for tax preparation, tax filing, tax research, and financial systems (general ledger, fixed assets, construction in progress, accounts payable, purchasing, accounts receivable, sales, invoicing, etc.) Especially preferred software includes: Lawson, SAP, Crystal, and Order Entry.
This position requires the individual to stay current on tax regulations and laws affecting the Company both at a corporate and division level. The person in this position should use subscription to tax publications, attend tax seminars, etc. to remain current on relevant taxes.

BASIC FUNCTION:
This position is primarily responsible for the preparation and maintenance of the Company’s financial system, including preparing consolidated financial statements for monthly internal financial and statistical reporting, and providing financial information to the parent company (Gerdau, S.A.) on a timely basis. This position is also responsible for the consolidation of the company, reconciling general ledger accounts, preparing audit schedules, and financial and statistical analysis. This position will be involved with the month end close of the company. This position will have to research technical accounting topics when required by management.
The incumbent will be involved in several projects and would work without close supervision and somewhat independent toward achieving specific project goals.

NATURE AND SCOPE:
This position should possess a broad knowledge of accounting and reporting, preferably in a manufacturing environment, including consolidated reporting for SEC registrants. This position requires formal education at an accredited university with a degree in accounting, with 5 to 10 years of work experience with a large public accounting firm and/or private company within the SEC reporting area is preferred. Work experience should include exposure to a manufacturing environment and hands-on experience in general accounting, cost accounting, and internal controls. Being a Certified Public Accountant is preferred. The incumbent should be proficient in PC software, preferably Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
The incumbent should have or must develop an intimate knowledge of the Company’s accounting system to include the SAP and various other software applications.
This position assists the Corporate Accounting Manager in the accounting functions of the Corporate Office. These functions include the month-end closing of ledgers for the corporation and subsidiaries, conducting control self-assessments for Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and internal audit, general ledger account reconciliations, analysis and review, management reporting, external financial reporting, journal entries, and reviews the closing of month-end. The incumbent must exercise independent judgment when there are problems in final results before presentation to the Corporate Accounting Manager.
This position also will be involved in a wide variety of financial and accounting projects. Examples of such projects include the following:
- Applying purchase/push-down accounting to acquired entities.
- Establishing accounting procedures and documentation for the various accounting functions throughout the Company including the operating divisions.
- Evaluating various software purchases for financial reporting.
- Training users to various financial/accounting software.
- Update accounting administration manual including documentation of flow of accounting and statistical information.
- Revise/update chart of accounts.
The Senior Accountant II works in close coordination and cooperation with all levels of management, operating unit personnel, and internal/external auditors. The incumbent should possess excellent communication and problem solving skills.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Assists in monthly closing and financial reporting by preparing routine complex journal entries, consolidation of the various legal entities, review journal entries prepared by accountants, and clear zone balancing. Reviews system generated journal entries for accuracy and reasonableness.
- Monthly internal financial reporting, primarily the monthly Financial Report (which includes monthly financial and statistical information) for management.
- Annually prepares the Financial Statements including footnotes.
- Using and maintaining Crystal Reports maintained in the Crystal software reporting package, which is used to prepare the financial statements, various footnotes, and statistical reports.
- Quarterly and annual preparation of schedules and footnote support for Gerdau, S.A. (parent company).
- Conducts internal audit control self-assessment reviews and assists in SOX-related audit issue resolutions
- Maintains integrity of balance sheet accounts through review of account activity and balances for accuracy and reasonableness, and prepares audit schedules for outside auditors.
- Performs accounting for complex accounting areas, such as stock compensation, pensions and derivatives, etc.
- Performs general accounting duties including maintaining the accounting structure for account hierarchy in the financial statements and preparation/submission of various governmental financial and statistical reports as required.
- Accounting projects as assigned by the Corporate Accounting Manager and Chief Accountant; requires independence and project management skills to obtain project objectives.
- Prepares financial analysis as required by management.
- Acts as the liaison with plant and corporate accounting personnel for accounting issues.
- Seeks continual improvements of all accounting processes.
- Stays abreast of current accounting standards, including, but not limited to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP), International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and the various authoritative accounting guidance (FASB, SEC, etc) to ensure adequate accounting for and disclosure of the company’s financial information for internal and external reporting. Ad hoc research and special projects related to a wide range of technical accounting and financial reporting issues.

Job Summary:
Primarily responsible for maintaining and stocking consumables for the Furnace or Caster, general housekeeping duties (includes 5S and cleaning), assisting other furnace operators as needed and may be responsible for collecting and running slag samples.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Unload trucks and stock supplies and/or consumables.
- Operate/stock temperature and sampling device used to take temperatures, oxygen readings and steel samples.
- May also take care of slag pots/pits as needed (i.e clean out pits with shovels, water, et).

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Night shift position - 7pm - 7am (3 days on, 3 days off)
- Work involves routine tasks requiring the safe operation of forge equipment, forge checks at routine intervals, and routine quality checks to ensure finish products meet customer specifications.
- Performs forge start-up and shutdown procedures, which includes knowing the functions of lights and switches on forge control panel and platforms.

BASIC FUNCTION:
Integral member of the team responsible for the accounting functions at the Whitby & Cambridge Mills as well as the Whitby Shredder including financial reporting, forecasting, inventories, cost variance analysis, government reporting, and other financial responsibilities as may be assigned.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
This position, based out of our Whitby Mill, is primarily responsible for maintaining accurate accounting transactions, records and reports necessary to substantiate the financial performance of the operation. The incumbent also assists the Controller in performing routine analysis of spending to assist in identification of areas of opportunity.
The incumbent should possess a broad background in accounting and cost analysis as may be demonstrated by one with three to five years of previous qualifying experience in jobs involving accounting practices, inventory control, and cost analysis. Previous manufacturing experience is desirable.
The Senior (frequently referred to as “Mill”) Accountant is responsible for the accounting function to include inventories andinventory control, Government reporting, production records review as well as SOX compliance activities and self-assessments.
There are several challenges for the position including maintaining accurate records (production, purchasing, material),providing cost benefit analysis for operating management decisions and analyzing cost records to recommend changes toimprove profitability.
The position is responsible for the effective and accurate collection, compilation and issue of performance reports for plantoperations involving production data. Other responsibilities include trending and analyzing for cost control applications andassisting Controller in preparation of periodic reports and annual operating budgets.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Maintain accurate and timely accounting transactions, records and reports in close coordination and cooperation with Controller.
- Assist Controller in preparing and analyzing monthly financial forecasts. Collaborate with department to gather inputs and ensure forecasts can well predict monthly financial performance. Prepare variance analysis providing insight into discrepancies.
- Maintain fixed asset records. Track and account for capital projects, assure accurate reporting and classification, preparecomparison to capital budget, analyze cost overruns, etc.
- Maintain inventory records to assure accurate recording of production, production costs, shipments and cost of sales. Responsible for monitoring cycle count adjustments in accounting records and reconciling detail inventory records withgeneral ledger. Coordinates physical inventories with corporate accounting and outside auditors.
- Maintain operating statistics – production rates, yields, costs/ton, usage, man-hours, etc. and analysis of trends.
- Assist Controller in preparing division’s annual business plan and budgets, provide monthly reporting of actual to plan todivision management.
- Responsible for several phases of monthly closing process.
- Cost reporting/cost analysis – assists Controller in preparing monthly reporting to division management on production andprocess costs. Works with division management team (General Manager, Superintendents, etc.) in cost analysis, what-ifanalysis, etc. to analyze and reduce production costs.
- Under Corporate and Controller’s guidance, review/audit division data recording and tracking systems and processes toassure procedures are in place and followed; information is captured accurately and timely.
- Prepare quarterly financial records and reports for Government grant reporting. Primary contact for Government inquiries andexternal audit.

Job Summary:
The laborer is an entry level position, reflecting employees with no previous knowledge or experience related to scrap metals and recycling. The laborer must have the ability to learn and a strong work ethic. The laborer will assist in several aspects of daily operations such as scrap inspection, sortation, and general yard maintenance as directed.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follow all of the established Gerdau safety, environmental, and routine procedures specific to the yard
- Operate the fork-lift while progressing towards loader operation and material handler operation to assist in the loading, off-loading, and sorting of scrap materials
- Inspect incoming scrap against quality and environmental standards with a progression towards grading and purchasing scrap material
- Apply deductions to non-conforming materials through effective communication with the scale house or yard inspector

The Solar Pile Shift Lead Operator is responsible for providing efficient and good solar pile products with short lead times and minimal downtime to the SPM operations. This position Shift Lead oversees solar pile production processes with minimal supervision. This position will be a Shift Lead Operator in a highly automated process line with the ability to produce over 100,000 tons of solar pile yearly.
Prinicpal Accountabiities:
Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner.

Your Purpose:

Basic Function:

Nature and Scope:
The incumbent administers a sound and effective maintenance program to assure continuous operation of various gas and deisil powered mobile equipment. Principal Accountabilities:

Your Purpose
You will report to the Procurement Operations Manager. You will oversee and manage the acquisition of indirect materials and services within the Petersburg Operations adhering to company standards and established commodity strategies, while ensuring the lowest total cost, desired quality, and required delivery terms.
You will work directly with the Regional and Central Procurement Teams in developing a strategic direction throughout their areas in order to improve profitability and manage working capital. These activities include but are not limited to the execution of supplier agreements and purchase orders, management of supplier quality and performance, conducting cost-savings initiatives, and ensuring compliance to established policies and procedures. You will also be responsible for the supervision and development of a team of Buyers and other Procurement personnel in order to support the business operations.
Your Work
- Maintain a current and thorough knowledge of appropriate local and regional markets and competitive practices.
- Serve as a liaison with the supplier community. You will establish and maintain effective supplier and market relationships to accomplish this goal. - Oversee the acquisition of capital equipment and ensure that services are carried out according to technical specifications and meeting internal customer needs. Additional responsibilities within CAPEX acquisitions will include the effective management of milestone payments; monitoring and expediting equipment manufacturing and construction timelines, and monitoring of the contractual obligations between the supplier and Gerdau. Your Purpose:
You will be responsible for the planning, setting-up, and performing the routine duties and operators necessary to cast molten steel through a continuous casting machine process. Follow prescribed methods, procedures, and operation sequence.
Your Work:
- Visually monitor computers screens in pulpit to operate the run-out equipment and cut billets to the specified length.
- Perform billet inspection, monitor billet weights/lengths and adjust as necessary.
- Assists maintenance on down days.
- Periodically use hand torches to cut billets to length.
- Periodically use torch to cut a sample of a billet for purposes of ensuring quality.
- Removes slag from under the torch pit and run out pit using rakes, shovels, water hoses, and/or mobile equipment.

You Have:

Your Purpose:

Your Purpose
You will report to the Procurement Operations Manager. You will oversee and manage the acquisition of materials, services, and equipment within the Cartersville Operations adhering to company standards and established commodity strategies, while ensuring the lowest total cost, desired quality, and required delivery terms.
You will work directly with the Regional and Central Procurement Teams in developing a strategic direction throughout their areas in order to improve profitability and manage working capital. These activities include but are not limited to the execution of supplier agreements and purchase orders, management of supplier quality and performance, conducting cost-savings initiatives, and ensuring compliance to established policies and procedures. You will also be responsible for the supervision and development of a team of Buyers and other Procurement personnel in order to support the business operations.
Your Work

Your Purpose:
Perform a wide variety of supplementary duties within the melt shop and other plant areas within a team.
Your Work:
- Involves a variety of simple, manual tasks, receiving guidance, and specific instructions from Melt Shift Supervisor and furnace crews.
- Perform repetitive work around the furnace area to supply raw materials for the melting process such as adding alloys, fluxes, refractories, etc.
- Cut unprepared scrap in the yard with a cutting torch for the electric furnace.
- Through on the job training, must become certified on Billet Yard Crane in order to serve as a relief operator. This requires proficiency in operating the crane and assisting with routine and preventative maintenance. Safely operate overhead Billet Crane to warehouse billets between the casting and rolling process.
- As needed, function as a Caster Cutting Attendant. This requires versatility to adequately carry out the normal machine operator duties for each job performed and participating in housekeeping activities in the casting area.
- Clean machinery and other equipment or apparatus, assist maintenance personnel, as needed handling tools, parts, and perform routine maintenance on any equipment used.
- Perform material handling duties by unloading trucks transporting supplies and parts to the warehouse, stock room, or work areas.
- Use hand tools such as a shovel, pick, sledgehammer, crowbar, broom, and rake; equipment such as hand trucks, dollies, jack, pneumatic hammer, as well as operate forklifts, front-end loaders, and bobcats to perform daily tasks and to get up stock for the furnace.
- Assist with hanging electrodes, taking temperatures and samples at the furnace, and adding necessary alloys at the tap as directed. Required to function as an Electric Furnace Helper as needed.

Your Purpose
As part of the North American logistics team, you will report to the corporate regional logistic manager. You will provide analysis, technical support, and truck carrier communications to maintain transportation structures, systems, and ongoing freight services for Gerdau Long Steel North America. You will be responsible for assisting with the negotiation of proposals, establishing and verifying shipping procedures, and analyzing shipping data to look for opportunities and identify market trends. You will assist in the development of policies, guidelines, and procedures to ensure high-quality, low-cost shipping opportunities. You will assist regional logistics managers in soliciting quotes and maintaining rate and freight tracking systems. Daily, you will communicate with outside transportation service providers, fulfillment, dispatch, warehouse teams, logistics managers, regional transportation managers, and mill shipping supervisors to obtain or provide information to meet logistics needs.
Your Work
- Provide support day-to-day activities associated with the management of Logistics programs to ensure programs are in compliance with applicable federal and state regulations and company policy and are reviewed for continuous improvement.
- Maintain the freight rate tracking program, calculate various transportation rates, update system, track communications and negotiated rates, and enter or review invoices in a timely manner.
- Assist with reconciliation, payment and monitoring of vendors. This may include accounts payable payments and assess performance standards for outside logistics vendors.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follow all of the established Gerdau safety, environmental, and routine procedures specific to the yard
- Operate the fork-lift while progressing towards loader operation and material handler operation to assist in the loading, off-loading, and sorting of scrap materials
- Inspect incoming scrap against quality and environmental standards with a progression towards grading and purchasing scrap material
- Apply deductions to non-conforming materials through effective communication with the scale house or yard inspector
- Perform and document daily Routine Equipment Care (REC)
- Detect and report faulty tools, equipment, environmental hazards, and safety hazards to a supervisor
- Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly fashion

Locations with Rail:

- Ensure non-conforming objects have been removed from incoming scrap vehicles such as gas tanks (drained and removed), propane tanks, and batteries

Your Purpose
You will report to the Procurement Operations Manager. You will oversee and manage the acquisition of materials, services, and equipment within the Cartersville Operations adhering to company standards and established commodity strategies, while ensuring the lowest total cost, desired quality, and required delivery terms.
You will work directly with the Regional and Central Procurement Teams in developing a strategic direction throughout their areas to improve profitability and manage working capital. These activities include but are not limited to the execution of supplier agreements and purchase orders, management of supplier quality and performance, conducting cost-savings initiatives, and ensuring compliance to established policies and procedures. You will also be responsible for the supervision and development of a team of Buyers and other Procurement personnel to support the business operations.
Your Work
- Maintain a current and thorough knowledge of appropriate local and regional markets and competitive practices.
- Serve as a liaison with the supplier community. You will establish and maintain effective supplier and market relationships to accomplish this goal. - Oversee the acquisition of capital equipment and ensure that services are carried out according to technical specifications and meeting internal customer needs. Job Description:
This position will collaborate with Supervisors, Engineers, Planners, Trades and Operators in ensuring plant equipment delays and costs are minimized. The major role of this job is to focus on the integration, execution, and continuous improvement of Reliability Practices. Job Summary:
The Yard Operator has a variety of duties and a broad skill set that makes this position an important part of operational needs. The Yard Operator requires knowledge of scrap grading, or have the ability to learn. The Yard Operator will assist in several aspects of daily operational needs such as scrap inspection, ferrous and non-ferrous purchasing, mobile equipment operation, and performing general maintenance duties.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follow all established Gerdau Safety, Environmental, and Routine procedures specific to the yard.
- Work involves a variety of tasks, simple through moderately complex in nature, requiring some care to ensure correct procedures are being followed.
- Ensure that all incoming scrap is scanned for radiation and that all material that fails the scan is quarantined and the appropriate personnel are notified.
- Operate the loader and/or the material handler to assist in loading and unloading scrap material, while following the quality standards of Gerdau and the customer.
- Ensure that all incoming scrap inspected against quality, and environmental standards and appropriate deductions and downgrades are applied. Communicate findings with the scale in a timely manner.
- Inspect and verify scrap for grade and quality. Identify deductions and downgrades.
- Ensure that all outbound materials meets safety and quality standards.
- Perform and document daily Routine Equipment Care (REC).
- Detect and report faulty material, environmental hazards, safety, and/or improper operation of plant equipment or machinery; refer questionable and unusual matters to proper supervision. Maintain work area and equipment in a clear and orderly fashion.

NATURE AND SCOPE:
This position is primarily responsible for developing, refining, and communicating the strategies and operating information needed to optimize productivity while ensuring the efficient and cost effective production of final products which meet or exceed the customers’ expectations. The Process Metallurgist I may prepare and/or review data sheets, diagrams, and flow charts needed for the correct and efficient operation of equipment. Qualifications for this position include a four year college degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Material Science combined with 3 to 5 years of industrial experience, with direct experience with multiple strategic process improvement projects. The incumbent should have a broad technical knowledge of metallurgy and an understanding of steel manufacturing techniques used in the melting, refining, and casting of molten steel, in addition to modern rolling practices. This also includes a good understanding of structural, bar and merchant products along with their typical applications in industry. The successful candidate must be able to apply engineering fundamentals to the continuous improvement efforts of production and maximize the efficiency of the overall department operations.
This position reports directly to the Quality Assurance Manager. The incumbent must possess good communication skills, have the ability to articulate ideas, be detail oriented, and be comfortable dealing with associates at all levels within the organization, as well as associates from customers, suppliers and technical associations.
The Process Metallurgist I will assist in the preparation and completion of corrective actions and failure analyses both within and external to the facility. Metals Recycling Supervisor Guelph
Job Summary
:
Oversee the activities of the Recycling yard personnel and coordinate multiple tasks for the purpose of collecting & sorting scrap into various grades, and coordinating with Sales & Purchasing the transfer of sorted material to customers (internal & external). The basic function of this position is to ensure that operating personnel perform their duties in order to fulfill the requirements of their job duties pertaining to the Recycling yard operations in a safe and timely manner.
Nature and Scope
:
This position reports to the Division Manager, and is responsible for overseeing the activities of movement of scrap through out the operation, as well as training, testing and auditing of the Recycling Yard Operators. The Supervisor will assist in the development of standard operating procedures used by Recycling personnel to fulfill their position duties. The majority of the standards developed will be safely moving traffic and products throughout the Yard. The Recycling Yard Supervisor will work with a variety of outside sources and must be able to interact with other Recycling Yard location personnel, Regional Managers, Customers and Scrap Suppliers. The incumbent should have a working knowledge of scrap and metal grades and must know the different types of steel scrap that is charged into the furnace and the quality requirements in order to make quality finished products. The Recycling Supervisor will be responsible to ensure the proper recording of weight of incoming scrap and outgoing finished product to ensure proper acknowledgement of receivables as well as shipments for proper payment.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Supervise scrap yard personnel for the proper placement of scrap cars and trucks within the Yard safely.
- Responsible for the organization of incoming and outgoing scrap.
- Responsible for the diagnosis and subsequent solution of equipment breakdown problems.
- Responsible for proper operation and utilization of equipment to prevent damage and minimize repair.
- Responsible for initiating, writing, training and auditing personnel on procedures for the Scrap Yard.
- Responsible for the scheduling of personnel, work hours reported by the people, and documentation of any oral or written disciplinary action required.
- Coordinates with Traffic, and Sales & Purchasing Department to coordinate the timely loading/unloading trucks. In addition, duties may include scheduling overtime to work additional hours to unload customers with scrap.
- Responsible for working with the scrap inspector for the proper inspection of incoming scrap by truck. The final decision of either accepting or rejecting incoming scrap will be made.
- Responsible for leading team activities to accomplish improvement goals including facilitating crew meetings.
- Responsible for Departmental housekeeping.
The Individual:
- University Degree plus 2-3 years related work experience or 5-7 years experience in the Scrap Metal industry
- Excellent communication skills are a necessity to interface with customers, scrap suppliers and personnel.

Job Summary:
Reporting to the Roll Shop Supervisor, this position's main focus will be to set up and operate a computer numerically controlled lathe to machine all types of new and used rolls to finished size and contour for all sections rolled in the Mill.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plans working procedures from instructions, prints, computer programs, and work orders
- Slings rolls and places them in a lathe using a crane
- Centers and fastens roll in the lathe
- Barrels new rolls
- Selects and profiles cutting tools for the job in accordance with hardness, machinability, desired contour, and surface of the roll to be turned and set up in the tool holder
- Sets up and operates CNC lathe to turn any type of roll to finished size within close tolerances
- Selects and adjusts speeds and feeds for material to be cut
- Turns rolls to specifications and intermittently checks dimensions for compliance using a protractor, calipers, micrometers, rulers, straights edge, pass templates, and thickness gauges.
- Observes turning of roll, interrupts upon deviation from specifications, and corrects minor errors in a computer program by manually overriding computer
- Operates lathe manually to complete finishing of the roll such as taking out points, blending radii, and using plugs
- Operates milling machine to cut deformations in rolls
- Operates electric discharge machine (EDM) to brand rolls
- Inspects and lubricate equipment
Additional Responsibilities:

Your Purpose:

Coordinate transportation of ladles in and out of the shop to ensure the proper amount is available. Follow prescribed methods, procedures, instructions, and sequence of operations.
Your Work:
- Work involves a complete range of duties that are highly repetitive and routine in nature to properly and effectively set up ladles to efficiently pour molten metal.
- Set up slide gates. Replace ladle nozzles, patch well block, porous plug, slide gate refractories, and stir pipe when necessary.
- Inspect slide gate refractories, mechanical components, and nozzles for defects and wear. Turn, replace, clean, and lubricate the slide gate as required.
- Inspect ladle lining and handling accessories, including ladle preheater. Check porous plugs with gas for flow and wear and make changes or repairs, patch block as needed.
- Inspects hydraulic fittings and hoses and replace them when needed.
- Operate ladle preheaters, check ladle temperatures, and keep ladles properly heated for furnace tapping.
- Direct ladle transfer movement and placement for furnace tapping.
- Add sand mixture to the ladle as needed to ensure the highest percentage possible of free opens.
- Use oxygen lance to melt out skulls from the ladle, clean out ladle nozzle bores and porous lug, and to lance open slide gates as required.
- Perform and document down day activities.
- Operate mobile equipment to lift and transport materials including loaders, makeup cart, brick-lift, and forklifts.

- Operate a forklift to transfer finished products from the production line and secure with steel banding or shrink-wrap material to palletize product for shipment.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

This position will be a full-time, 4-month long internship opportunity starting May 2025 with the potential of extending to 16 months.
AS THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE, YOU WILL
- Perform statistical analysis of energy consumption throughout the process to find opportunities for energy savings
- Collect and analyze production data to determine improvement opportunities in a steel mill
- Develop and implement solutions for production problems in the reheating, rolling or finishing process
- Perform daily audits of process to report if standards are current and effective
- Other responsibilities as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Materials Science or Metallurgy Engineering or relevant engineering focus
- Must be highly motivated, proactive, collaborative, and willing to handle new challenges
- Statistical analysis and knowledge of manufacturing methods are an asset
- Previous internship experience preferred
- Candidates must demonstrate leadership potential, strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, initiative, and problem-solving skills.
- Must be legally authorized to work full-time in the country of hire without requiring current or future sponsorship for employment.

Your Qualifications
- BS in Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering preferred OR HS Diploma/ GED and 5 years of related experience in a manufacturing plant.
- 3+ years of experience with industrial automation controls and object-oriented software development and the ability to demonstrate fundamental control theory knowledge.
- Must have metal industry or heavy manufacturing industry experience such as Power, Pulp & Paper, Chemical, Raw Materials, etc.
- Experience with iBA software preferred. Major part of their responsibility data acquisition software.
- Knowledge of languages and/or technologies including: VB.Net, HTML, C, C#, Python, SCADA,
- Server management and virtual machine hosting.
- Familiar with databases such as Microsoft SQL and/or Oracle.
- HMI experience with one or more of these platforms: Ignition, Wonderware, Simotion, or iFix.
- Industrial process automation communications experience including Ethernet IP, Profinet, Profibus.
- Networking fundamentals and systems set-up.
- Ability to work Monday - Friday, 7am to 4pm.
Overview
The role of the Sr. Industrial Controls Engineer is primarily two-fold. First, to be a great team member who demonstrates high levels of honesty, integrity, and ownership in everything they do. Second, is to ensure the success of the team by SAFELY performing maintenance, programming, and upgrade tasks on Level II software systems, as well as proposing and implementing innovative solutions to challenges in the steel making process and business. Safety is the most important part of all jobs at Gerdau; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to consistently initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards.
Your Work
- Develop and/or modify control system software to meet evolving company production requirements or goals.
- Determine the root cause of control system problems and develop effective corrective actions.
- Ensure stability and availability of control system hardware and software by thorough and precise maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Work with other engineers responsible for interconnected systems to assist their troubleshooting efforts.
- Provide technical support for maintenance personnel as required.
- Ability to manage projects and contractors as required.
