BASIC FUNCTION:
The Product Metallurgist II provides technical coordination and support for the Melt Shop and/or Rolling Mill to advance the development and refinement of operating procedures to ensure quality standards. Responsible for providing support in the coordination and evaluation of customer requirements and product specifications in accordance with the capacities and capabilities of the production departments. The Product Metallurgist II will, for the most part, be self directed. As directed, he/she will aid in corporate initiatives such as corporate quality projects or technical affiliation with Universities.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Under the direction of the Quality Assurance Manager, the Product Metallurgist II is primarily responsible for the identification, evaluation, and implementation of product enhancement opportunities. These actions involve the planning, supervision, evaluation and reporting of product trials, and on-site material review at customers’ plants. The Product Metallurgist II has a dotted line reporting relationship to the Manager Technical Services.
Qualifications for this position include possessing a working knowledge of steelmaking production, a four-year from an accredited institution in an Engineering discipline and a minimum of 5 years of experience in a steelmaking environment, preferably with quality control or metallurgy. The incumbent should have a strong knowledge of metallurgy and an understanding of steel manufacturing and techniques used in the melting, refining, and casting of molten steel and/or modern rolling practices. The incumbent must be able to independently apply metallurgical fundamentals to the continuous improvement efforts of production and maximize the efficiency of the overall operation.
This position is responsible for developing, refining, and communicating the engineering and operating data needed to produce billets and finished products to meet customer
product specifications. Although there are no employees reporting directly to this position, the incumbent does have advisory and training responsibilities for other exempt and hourly production and maintenance employees. The incumbent will be considered a subject matter expert in the knowledge management system and will be expected to contribute to this system. Additionally, the incumbent will assist in metallurgical training of all employees, including employee advanced technical training processes.
The incumbent will visit customers as required when there is a technical issue with the product or new product development opportunities. Additionally, the incumbent will be a technical resource to customers for product requirements. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required for both reporting problems to the mill and reporting the analysis and solutions back to the customer. The incumbent will work with external customers to develop solutions that will make the products that they require and that the plant is capable of producing. Incumbent must demonstrate competency for being customer-focused with a pleasant demeanor and approach.
The Product Metallurgist II shall review all Procedures, Job Aids, One Point Lessons, Specifications, Process Guarantee Tables and SAP – SKU’sPGT’s and SKU’s required to ensure products meet the customer’s expectations. The incumbent will receive/collect, interpret and extrapolate data from the production process in order to monitor current performance against established practices and capabilities, as well as make recommendations on how to improve product quality for the future. As needed, he/she will work in close cooperation with operational and quality leaders to insure correct and proper operation of all equipment to obtain the desired production, safety, and quality levels. This position is also responsible for developing proper engineering information to facilitate departmental requests and needs for cost justification.
Incumbent must stay abreast of current technologies to assist with recommending changes to effect continual improvement in the production and quality process. Shares best practices through involvement with Gerdau learning opportunities including the Knowledge Management System.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Timely and cost-conscious evaluation of customer requirements.
- Undertaking physical inspection of products and using judgement and/or making recommendations related to material disposition applied to the customer.
- Investigation and evaluation of customer complaints, with the responsibility to formulate and implement corrective action procedures.

Public Relation Communication Adminlant Services Clerk – Community Liaison This role will be the primary contact and coordinator for plant tours and community involvement. In addition to the administrative coordination, the incumbent will be responsible for accompanying tour groups through the plant while communicating plant specific information to customers, trade groups, and other community organizations. This role is responsible for fielding inquires related to our social responsibility initiatives and attending community events as necessary. 1.Coordinate and schedule plant tours to include:
a.Scheduling tours at non-peak times to minimize the impact to operations

Job Summary:

Scope (brief description)
:
This position is responsible for supporting a specific product line or group of customers. Volume of sales and number of customers will range between 46,000 tons to 87,000 tons and between 27 to 170 different customers. Breadth of knowledge is dependent of area of responsibility but should include a basic understanding of mill and logistics operations, forecast planning, inventory management concepts, shipping and logistics knowledge, and customer service principles and objectives. CSR I will generally be assigned smaller accounts and slightly less overall volume to manage than CSR II job due to less experience and knowledge.

Job Summary
:
The incumbent will be responsible for all aspects of account coordination to support scrap purchase and sales contracts, and other scrap related business processes for Metals Recycling. The incumbent will liaison with the Recycling Commercial, Operations, Logistics and Accounting teams to provide accurate, reliable and timely results to exceed customer service expectations. The purpose of this position is to provide support to the Commercial Team in the administration and maintenance of customer contracts. Principal Accountabilities:

The Individual:
- Business Administration University Degree or College Diploma is preferred.

NATURE AND SCOPE

General Function:
Seeking experienced Engineer III or IV, with extensive hands-on skills in implementing electrical and automation projects. BASIC FUNCTION:
The Manager, Technical Service is responsible for technical service, support and product development of steel products for Gerdau Longsteel North America (GLN) for a specific product line (i.e. Special Bar Quality (SBQ), Wire Rod products, etc.). NATURE AND SCOPE:
The Manager, Technical Services is primarily responsible for providing technical support to operations, sales and customers in order to assure Gerdau’s products meet customer expectations. The incumbent will provide feedback on performance to operations and sales that will allow the Mill locations to create appropriate actions to continuously improve quality. When required, will also assist operations and engineering with capitol projects to assure new equipment meets the needs of Gerdau’s customer base. The Manager, Technical Services reports to the Director of Sales; however, the incumbent will have close interaction with Mill VP and General Managers, along with the Director and Manager of Sales and Product Line Manager for the assigned product line.
The incumbent should have an in-depth knowledge of the product line industry, including product requirements, customer expectations and competitors’ capability. Additionally, the incumbent should also be familiar with the production process and the technical requirements to produce, test and inspect product. Will be responsible for staying abreast of current technology to recommend changes to effect continual quality and process improvement. Will work with operations and engineering on new capital projects to assure equipment selection and process capabilities meet customer expectations. The Manager, Technical Services is responsible for the technical support and development of product capabilities, as well as research and support for implementing new products for the business. The incumbent will, in conjunction with sales, develop a list of strategic accounts to be visited proactively on a regular basis for quality update meetings in order to provide advance knowledge of quality issues and product changes to both sales and operations. Additionally, the incumbent will develop and maintain a system for measuring customer satisfaction.
The Manager, Technical Services will be included in the customer claim process between sales, operations and the customer. All claim responses will be approved and sent to sales from the incumbent in a timely manner. There will be follow up on Failure Analysis, root cause analysis and action items to assure defects are prevented in the future. Interaction with operations regarding annual action planning for quality improvement is required. Additionally the Manager, Technical Services will approve product specifications, control charts and Process Guarantee Tables. Will participate in plant quality meetings for routine process and procedures as well as improvement initiatives for specified product line.
Where applicable, the incumbent is responsible for determining personnel needs, selecting applicants, and training new employees and follow-up of work performed. This position has full accountability of all aspects of People Management with subordinates. Your Purpose:
You will be the subject matter expert for the department in the field of hydraulics/pneumatics or gearboxes/drivetrains. You will troubleshoot basic mechanical assemblies to evaluate whether a pump, gearbox, hydraulic system or pneumatic system can be repaired or needs to be replaced, whether to replace or repair worn parts, and amount of lubrication needed.
Your Work:

Job Description
To provide minimum downtime for all plant equipment by preventive maintenance programs, troubleshooting and repairing any maintenance (mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, etc.) problems. The incumbent daily assigns projects and repairs and follows up with technical and/or physical assistance.
The incumbent is responsible for maintaining the plant in a functional, productive and safe operating condition. They are responsible to carry out the preventive maintenance program as related to cranes, machinery motors and other related equipment where routine adjustments are made and is available and adaptable to special problems which arise. The incumbent works closely with supervisors and superintendents within the company explaining and resolving maintenance problems.
The incumbent must also keep several reports including maintenance downtime log, work request log, and records any changes that are made to the master plans.
The incumbent has several employee relations functions to perform such as merit reviews and recommends the hiring, disciplining and terminating of employees. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining records of attendance. The incumbent is responsible for training and orientation and must be able to communicate technical expertise in order to delegate responsibility to subordinates. The technical experience includes but is not limited to industrial hydraulics, understanding of mechanical, piping, and structural drawings, mechanical systems, water systems, rotating equipment, industrial automation, PLC’s and HMI’s.
The major challenges facing the incumbent include assuring the efficient and safe operation of machinery. The incumbent must be able to adapt to changes and make technical decisions in order to prevent or reduce downtime. Problems requiring capital outlays or extended downtime have to be approved by superior.
Provide full support for the implementation and management of safety systems. Participate in all accident and incident investigations in area of responsibility. Conduct routine safety activities including inspection tours, employee contacts, lock out audits, and contractor safety. Ensure that safety rules and requirements are being followed in all work areas. Maintain compliance with visual management standards.

This position is responsible for ensuring that standardization processes are properly documented and training is provided to personnel responsible for operating in accordance with the standards. This position is accountable for auditing performance, documenting findings, and developing corrective action plans. Qualifications for this position include a four year college degree in engineering, businesss administration, or related field – or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Principal Accountabilities:
- Duties will include controlling the work flow within the area of responsibility, assist in minimizing downtime/breakdowns and maximizing productivity, monitor performance, managing routine processes, and training employees in routine management standards.
- Facilitate training sessions for operators under a maintained training matrix on the compliance standards, routine methodologies, tools, policies, practices, and processes.

Job Summary
The labourer is an entry level position, reflecting employees with no previous knowledge or experience related to scrap metals and recycling. The labourer must have the ability to learn and a strong work ethic. The labourer will assist in several aspects of daily operations such as scrap inspection, sortation, and general yard maintenance as directed. Under the safety standards of Gerdau the laborer will learn to operate mobile equipment and perform general maintenance duties on machinery. Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in:
- Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial Engineering
- Material Sciences/Metallurgy
- Or other applicable degree
- Recent college graduate within the last two years - recently completed or be in the process of completing degree before program starts
- Record of high academic achievement
- Preference for those with a degree-related internship experience

Your Purpose:
You will be performing a variety of maintenance and repair tasks necessary to keep the plant property, equipment, machinery and tools in good operating condition; diagnose problems and work in many varied and diversified capacities required in general maintenance, overhaul, and repair of plant equipment, processes, and facilities. Requires a general knowledge of electronics and electrical systems to include basic electrical repairs as needed or directed. Plan and schedule plant and equipment maintenance activities to minimize disruption to plant production and material handling activities with some supervision and direction provided by the Plant Manager. Major mechanical repairs, installation, and/or electrical repairs may require outside vendors or assistance from a Master Maintenance Mechanic.

Your Work:
- Work involves diversified duties, highly variable, requiring considerable care and judgment to effectively and efficiently diagnose, dismantle, repair, lubricate, reassemble, or otherwise perform general maintenance activities to include pipefitter, welder, Fabricating millwright, assembler, carpenter, plumber, and installer skills and abilities. Work will include electrical repair and wiring.
- Implement and maintain the division’s preventive maintenance program with input from plant manager and manufacturer’s recommendations. Train and instruct employees on preventive maintenance activities and procedures. Inspect, adjust, clean, and/or lubricate equipment as normal part of preventive maintenance program.
- Maintain and control plant inventory levels for maintenance parts and supplies. Order parts and supplies in accordance with supervisor approval.
- Train lesser-skilled maintenance personnel on proper work methods and safety procedures when assisting with maintenance activities.
- Maintain plant equipment and maintenance records to meet Gerdau and OSHA’s safety and quality compliance standards.
- Diagnose causes of malfunctions by sight, sound, or actions of plant equipment, machinery or processes and determine corrective action to include seeking vendor assistance.
- Tear down, replace, repair, install, and assemble equipment, parts, components, and accessories. Develop and fabricate accessory fixtures or guards for machines and equipment. Adjust machine mechanisms such as feed, speed, power input or output.
- Direct and/or coordinate production employees involved in maintenance repairs.
- Machining (turning, milling, grinding, drilling) parts for use in maintenance and production.

QUALITY SPECIALIST, METALLURGY - WHITBY MILL
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Conduct studies into the properties and production of new steels considering technical and standard requirements, properties and materials characteristics, process capabilities and statistical tools to provide inputs for trials, analysis and specifications;
- Conduct chemical and physical studies, failure analysis and other researches to provide guidance for corrective actions, developments and process improvement;
- Responsible for researching, developing, refining and communicating the operating data needed to produce steel products to meet customer product specifications;

You Have:
Qualifications for this position include possessing a working knowledge of steelmaking production, a four-year degree from an accredited institution in an Engineering discipline and a minimum of 2 years of experience in a steelmaking environment. The incumbent should have a basic knowledge of metallurgy and an understanding of steel manufacturing and techniques used in the melting, refining, and casting of molten steel and/or modern rolling practices. Job Overview:
Maintenance Planner will provide coordination, direction, and support for implementing and sustaining Asset Reliability Processes (ARP) to improve safety, equipment reliability, and product quality at optimum efficiency and costs.
This position is primarily responsible for planning and coordinating maintenance activities on equipment. The Maintenance Planner will develop job plans for all planned maintenance, predictive and preventive technologies, in conjunction with technicians, reliability engineers, mill operations, maintenance personnel and suppliers. This position will maximize the equipment reliability using a systematic approach to plan and schedule maintenance work.

Job Summary:
The Utility Person has a variety of duties and a broad skill set that makes this position an important part of operational needs. The Utility Person requires knowledge of scrap grading, or have the ability to learn. The Utility Person will assist in several aspects of daily operational needs such as scrap inspection, ferrous and non-ferrous purchasing, mobile equipment operation, and performing general maintenance duties.
The Utility Person will be expected to safely operate a material handling crane or loader in order to accomplish daily tasks. They must communicate regularly with the scale, supervisor, other coworkers, and customers about the quality of material and shipping requirements.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follow all established Gerdau Safety, Environmental, and Routine procedures specific to the yard.
- Work involves a variety of tasks, simple through moderately complex in nature, requiring some care to ensure correct procedures are being followed.
- Ensure that all incoming scrap is scanned for radiation and that all material that fails the scan is quarantined and the appropriate personnel are notified.
- Operate the loader and/or the material handler to assist in loading and unloading scrap material, while following the quality standards of Gerdau and the customer.
- Ensure that all incoming scrap inspected against quality, and environmental standards and appropriate deductions and downgrades are applied. Communicate findings with the scale in a timely manner.
- Inspect and verify scrap for grade and quality. Identify deductions and downgrades.
- Ensure that all outbound materials meets safety and quality standards.
- Perform and document daily Routine Equipment Care (REC).
- Detect and report faulty material, environmental hazards, safety, and/or improper operation of plant equipment or machinery; refer questionable and unusual matters to proper supervision. Maintain work area and equipment in a clear and orderly fashion.
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Promote and practice the core values of Gerdau.
- Participation in daily safety routine.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Assist in monthly inventory counts (where applicable)
- Assist maintenance personnel in the performance of equipment repairs as required or directed.
- Operate the Baler Operation.
- Assist in nonferrous processing; including segregation of materials to upgrade products. For example: Copper, Brass, Aluminum, etc.
- Assist co-workers in daily operational duties that are essential to the yard in terms of safety, efficiency, and profitability.
- Stage and remove material for torching with a material handler (where applicable).
- Problem solving input and contributions as required.

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position directly reports to the department superintendent. The incumbent will coordinate efforts with the different functional groups both within area of responsibility and other areas of the location. The incumbent will be assigned to an area of responsibility or a specific cell. The incumbent should be detail oriented and must be comfortable dealing with associates at all levels within the organization.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Duties will include controlling the work flow within the area of responsibility, assist in minimizing downtime/breakdowns and maximizing productivity, monitor performance, managing routine processes, and training employees in routine management standards.
2. Facilitate training sessions for operators under a maintained training matrix on the compliance standards, routine methodologies, tools, policies, practices, and processes.
3. Coach and develop the team at failure analysis and support the QIS methodology.

6. Conduct trend analysis, compile, and analyze symptoms and failures.
7. Administer all safety activities. Coordinates all emergency preparedness practices, policies, and procedures.
8. Track performances on control items. Ensure compliance. Design and implement new as well as update existing standards.
9. Audit performance, document findings, and develop corrective action plans.
10. Oversee, contribute to, and support daily routine management activities including the GBS Processes/Tools in the day-by-day work.
11. Establish and negotiate cell goals and manage Action Plans for area/cell of responsibility cell goal achievement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Four year college degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or Material Science.
- Three (3) - Five (5) years experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment, with exposure to sandardization and production quality methods.
- Must have strong working knowledge of the steel manufacturing methods and techniques involving the use of heavy mill machinery and related equipment.
- Previous exerience in scrap processing, melting, casting, and supervisory/facilitation a must.
- Ability to train and guide people.
- Must have solid interpersonal skills, organizational skills and people management.

Your Purpose:
You will work in a steel manufacturing maintenance improvement capacity with no direct reports. You will also coach production and maintenance employees as needed to complete improvement initiatives. You will assist the Technicians, Operators, Process Engineers, Supervisors, General Foremen, and Superintendent in the completion of Failure Analysis and associated actions. The major focus will be on continuous improvement and integration of improvement principles for maintenance activities, technical and engineering principles, identifying best practices, consistent application of standards, and to act as a change agent to achieve a higher level of results by utilizing and implementing improvement processes and equipment.
Your Work
- Develop, implement, and coordinate new as well as adjusting existing standards, structures, systems, and equipment in the Rolling Mill department.
- Work to improve electrical aspects of the process including but not limited to cabling, motors, instrumentation, and preventative maintenance practices for those items.
- Ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of all improvement aspects and reaching improvement through the application of the available methods and tools provided through Gerdau's Business Systems and improvement principles in conjunction with the use of technical and engineering principles.
- Assist management with the Annual Action Plan and the administration of established policies, procedures, and processes.
- Responsible for participating in CAPEX projects and compiling and analyzing project data with a moderate level of budgetary and CAPEX related expenditures as needed to support CAPEX initiatives.
- Provide oversight, contributions, and support of standardization processes, 5S initiatives, failure analysis, results-oriented management, and other process improvement methodologies.

Primary: - Receives instructions covering the scheduled and emergency repair, installation and inspection work to be done.
- Inspects plant equipment for defects, such as misalignment, wear, insufficient lubrication, etc. Determines the best way of making repairs to minimize interruption of production. Advises when immediate shut down of equipment is necessary to minimize damage or when temporarily continued operation will have no harmful effect.
- Dismantles, cleans, repairs, replaces, installs, maintains, assemblies and lubricates mechanical equipment. Adjust equipment for proper repairs. Assemblies and aligns gears, bearings and shafts, involving the application of press, sliding and running fits.
- Performs all rigging as necessary.
- Operates machine tools, such as drill press, pipe threading machine, power saw, etc.
- Performs all mechanical repairs as required on cranes.
- Lay outs, installs, maintains and repairs all types of pipe lines, fittings, fixtures and pressure systems as required.
- Repairs leaks in hydraulic, air, gas or water system. Replaces straight sections of pipe that have sprung leaks. Removes and installs complete operating components (cylinders, oil motors, four-way valves, check valves which are purchased spare parts and whose internal working components are spares for assemblies on production units). Repair pumps, compressors, blowers, etc.
- Changes, set up and adjust equipment as required by current operating conditions.
- Works with repair crews as directed on emergency break downs.
- Completes necessary reports on Preventive Maintenance and other equipment inspection checklist.
- Perform water test as required.
- Document all work performed on Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- All other tasks assigned by management.
Secondary: - Performs light welding where required in association with routine/emergency repair work.
- Observes good housekeeping and safety on the jobsite and maintenance shop.
- Utilization of EMM and GBS concepts.
>TRAINING AND/OR BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS:
- 1 year millwright experience with Millwright Journeyman’s Card or
- 4 years millwright experience without Journeyman's Card or
- Complete Gerdau Monroe Mill Apprenticeship Program
and
- High school diploma or GED
and
NEW/EXISTING EMPLOYEES MUST ALSO HAVE THE FOLLOWING:
- Pass all testing requirements
- Complete training checklist for this position
