What The Position Entails
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, this position’s job responsibilities include:
- Lay out, install, maintain, repair plant pipelines, fittings, and fixtures
- Set up and operate bending, threading, and cut-off equipment to shape and fabricate pipe for installation
- Test, inspect, dismantle, repair, replace or install any type of pressure piping, fittings, and fixtures for air, water, steam, oil, gas
- Read and interpret drawings and sketches
- Prepare material lists and trade calculations
- Operate material handling equipment such as cranes, tow motor operation including rigging

BASIC FUNCTION:
The Corporate Accounting Manager – Cost is responsible for maintaining and improving upon the existing cost accounting functions in support of manufacturing operations and functional departments. Responsibilities include adherence to the monthly and quarterly close process and time line, oversee entries to the general ledger and account reconciliations and analysis related to inventory and cost of goods sold accounts in order to ensure the continued integrity and accuracy of the accounts on the Company’s financial results and balance sheet.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
- This position reports directly to the Senior Manager Accounting Operations.
- This position works closely with the Mill Division Controllers and Mill Accountants who manage the accounting function of the mill operations and accounting personnel.
- The qualifications for this position at least five years of progressive accounting responsibilities in a multi-divisional manufacturing organization preferably in a corporate environment; excellent communication skills; proficient in personal computer software and accounting systems. Must possess a Bachelors or Masters Degree with major in accounting or finance. SAP experience is required. A CPA license is preferred.
- The successful candidate will join a team committed to manufacturing excellence, continuous improvement and team member development. This person will enjoy developing solid business relationships with their counterparts in various other departments including but not limited to Operations, Logistics, Procurement, IT, and Planning. This position will play a key role in providing impartial financial analysis and guidance, decision support, and development of financial acumen across the organization.
- Accounting Manager – Cost manages the monthly Costing close process, extensively coordinates with all division controllers to effectively and efficiently close the costing systems and produce cost statements. This position also helps manage the structure, account maintenance, report design and maintenance of the SAP system related to cost.
- The manager also ensures the integrity of the accounts through thorough review of the performance of the company’s internal controls and completion of SOX requirements. They also coordinate activities with operations for external auditors.
- Insure that Company policies relating to department employees are being implemented on a fair and consistent basis and that good employee relation practices are being maintained. Make recommendations as to adequate training, transfers and promotions of employees that are in the best interest of Gerdau.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Maintain accurate costing methodology in the ERP System (SAP).
- Maintain and improve the costing methodology and KPI reporting for inventory and management cost reporting (P&L).
- Maintain standard cost system to ensure accuracy of inventory valuation and lead annual manufacturing cost standard updates and analyze variance to standards.
- Monitor inventory transactions and processes including scrap, inventory, and COGS to ensure accuracy and compliance with corporate policies
- Monthly manufacturing and overhead variance research, analysis and reporting, including labor/overhead absorption by product lines
- Prepare and analyze department expense variances (actual to budgets/forecasts), monthly revenues & associated gross margin analysis
- Assists senior management teams in understanding costs, variances, and other operating measures, including product/SKU level margins through key strategic reports
- Identify potential issues and coordinate issue resolution/problem solving with other functional teams
- General ledger reconciliation responsibility of all inventory and cost of goods sold accounts
- Coordinates required inventory reserves and ensure compliance with periodic cycle counts and physical inventory and reconcile results
- Provide support to FP&A team through various forecasting/modeling based on production plan as well as purchase price variances, scrap rates, material variances, etc.
- Participates in the annual budgeting process, including preparation of standard costs
- Drive the development of procedures and controls that ensure meaningful and reliable product costs and accurate inventories
- Assist with the documentation and compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley
- Prepare for and participate in internal and external reviews and audits
- Involved, as time permits, in FP&A and general ledger support as well as special projects
- Such other duties as assigned from time-to-time.
Job Complexity
This position requires a comprehensive understanding of general and cost accounting principles. Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires reconciliation and evaluation of identifiable factors. Requires the exercise of judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques to obtain solutions.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree, major in Accounting or Finance, with a depth of skills in accounting (both financial and managerial), reporting, analysis, financial supply chain, processes and procedures
- Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
- Requires cost accounting experience in a process manufacturing environment and a general understanding of discrete and repetitive manufacturing
- SAP experience required

SCOPE
Primary:
- Dismantle, clean, inspect, repair, and reassemble bearings, bearing chocks and hydraulic cylinders for mounting on anti-friction rolls.
- Build and install all guiding equipment for the KOCKS mill stands.
- Install KOCKS roll rings onto hubs and shafts and then assemble them for rolling.
- Inventory and maintain all gaskets, seals, bearing, and miscellaneous parts needed for shop operations.
- Assist with all KOCKS equipment.
Secondary:
- Assist Roll Shop Supervisor in design and project work.
- Assist Roll Shop personnel with the building, setting and maintaining of KOCKS equipment.
- Maintain a safe work environment.
- Acquire and maintain valid Lift Truck Operators permit.
- Acquire and maintain valid Remote Crane Operators permit.
- Utilization of EMM & GBS concepts.

QUALITY RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Installation of Kocks rolls rings into hubs and shafts and fully assemble Kocks stands.
- Build and install all guiding equipment for Kocks stands.
- Complete all required reports and forms as directed.
- Dismantle, clean, inspect, repair and re-assemble bearings, bearing chocks and hydraulic cylinders for mounting on anti-friction rolls.
- Read blueprints, as necessary, to make initial assemblies of bearing chocks and rolls.
- Properly lubricate bearings and chocks on assembly.
- Stop the Rolling Mill processes if quality is adversely affected.
- Inspect and determine root cause of bearing failures.
- Receiving / inspection.
SAFETY RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Observe and follow all general and departmental safety rules and regulations (inc. Cardinal Safety Rules).
- Practice good housekeeping and safety on the job.
- Attend crew safety meetings.
- Report unsafe equipment, hazards, and near miss incidents to the Supervisor.
- Clean and paint Roll Shop equipment.
COST/PRODUCTION RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identify rolls with assigned numbers.
- Remove scrap rolls from roll shop.
- Maintain and repair hand tools and other equipment as required.
- Transport parts from Roll Shop to Machine Shop for repair, and transport parts and supplies from storeroom.
- Operate Roll Shop cranes.
- Maintain inventory on solvents, lubricants, gaskets, seals, bearings, and any miscellaneous parts needed for shop operations.
- Assist other Roll Shop personnel in any function deemed necessary.
ENVIRONMENTAL RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for spill prevention, containment, response and clean up or assist in clean up of material spills.
- Responsible completing all required annual environmental training (inc. air emissions, fugitive dust & torch cutting).

What You Will Do

Primary: - Interpret drawings and sketches. Plan details of working procedure and tools and material requirement.
- Selects material in accordance with suitability for job.
- Lays out work, make sketches, and determines stock size as required.
- Performs all rigging as necessary.
- Cleans and prepares surfaces to be welded as required. Set up, assemblies, and takes weld parts constructing special fixtures as needed. Performs gas and electric welding in all positions (down-hand, vertical, overhead, etc.). Mark any type and size weld, such as “V”, lay, butt, etc. preheating parts when requires.
- Builds up work or defective surfaces. Cleans, grinds and flame anneals parts and welded joints as required. Uses burning equipment to dismantle assemblies and to cut material to size and shape. Perform brazing as required. May perform thermi-welding or shielded arc welding as required.
- Performs work requiring a working knowledge of the welding properties of various types of metals, welding rods, welding heats, stress relief, allowance for fit-up and machining, and the effects of shrinkage, warpage, and expansion.
- Performs welding on pipes that must withstand high pressure.
- Complete necessary reports and work with repair crews as directed.
- Document all work performed on Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- All other tasks assigned by management.
Secondary: - Exercises all safety precautions and makes provisions for handling materials and equipment to and from job site. Works in the shop of job site.

Plant Operations:
The Regional Energy Manager (REM) supplies energy for several mills within a broad geographical region and serves as a resource for plant management for energy forecasts, communication, and collaboration regarding commercial aspects of energy supply. In this position, the REM will:

This position reports directly to the Meltshop Superintendent. The incumbent will coordinate efforts with the different functional groups both within area of responsibility and other areas of the Facility. Key accountabilities are development, standardization, administration and documentation relating to processes in control standards, management standards, routine procedures, job aids and lessons, and process guarantee tables.
This position will update and/or develop training to facilitate operational excellence for personnel within the standards. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for auditing performance, documenting findings, and developing corrective action plans. These duties will include standard compliance audits as well as leading Failure Analysis when significant problems occur and compare performance to existing standards to develop corrective action plans. Key to the position will be to motivate personnel through change management processes involving communication and articulation of ideas, providing feedback, and resolving conflicts to facilitate change and deliver results.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s preferred in Material Science Engineering / Metallurgy / Engineering /Chemistry.
- 8 or more years’ experience with Meltshop operations. This includes understanding the raw materials used in an Electric Arc furnace (EAF) as well as the operation of the EAF and continuous casting operation.
- Demonstrated experience with quality management and metallurgical product development and/or process engineering in a steelmaking with refractories. Experience with the process of continuous casting (melting, refining, and/or casting) and working with ferrous alloys.
- Experience in leading initiatives in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, TPM and knowledge of business systems. Familiarity with ISO 9001 and ISO 14000 quality system would be an asset.
- The candidate should be experienced with advanced problem-solving techniques with a high aptitude for math and statistical analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate across all levels within the organization.
- Ability to train and guide operators in new steel making processes.
- Must be comfortable with integrating new technology into an existing business environment.
- The incumbent should possess solid presentation abilities combined with good organizational skills.
- People management skills and interpersonal skills is a must.
- Offer hands on support as needed and willingness to work any and all shifts as needed – primarily a day shift position.
