Seeking experienced Engineer III or IV, with extensive hands-on skills in implementing mechanical, electrical or automation projects. Your Purpose:
You will be performing a limited variety of highly repetitive duties to load and secure steel rail spike products into railroad gondola cars, boxcars, or truck trailers for shipment to customer location. You will assist in servicing production lines and transfer finished products to temporary storage locations or dock loading platform.
Your Work:
- Operate a forklift to transfer finished products from the production line and secure with steel banding or shrink-wrap material to palletize product for shipment.
- Move palletized material to a temporary storage inspection station or loading dock.
- Disengage rail car mover lever to position boxcar or gondola into the loading position.
- Prepare a rail car or other specified vehicles to receive the product for shipment. Attach steel strapping material to boxcar interior walls in accordance with standard operating procedures and methods. Ship product palletized or loose as per customer order.
- Operate forklift, or handheld, push-button pendant crane, with or without magnet, to load specified product into the proper vehicle.
- Operate a forklift or pendant crane to unload incoming steel and machine shop supplies, pallets, empty kegs, and steel banding strips. Place supply items at the proper storage locations. Distribute pallets to the production line staging area.
- Check and verify steel heat and bundle numbers, weight, and carbon content as indicated on the shipping invoice; check off an item or indicate shortages and forward to office personnel for processing.
- Operate forklift to empty scrap buckets and return to the production line.
- As directed, assist on the production line as a relief person.

Job Description:
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, this position's main focus will be to perform all kinds of welding, brazing and cutting on any type of metal using gas and electric welding equipment, and to layout, fabricate, assemble, erect and repair structural, plate and pipe work.
Hourly rate: $41.07 /hour plus COLA (cost of living allowance). Overtime is available.
Our Ideal Candidate will:
- Receive instructions and drawings regarding shop and fieldwork orders for the job
- Interpret drawings and sketches, plans working procedures and determines the materials, tools and equipment required
- Handle and /or make arrangements for the handling of the materials, tools and equipment to and from the job site in shop or field
- Lay out work, makes sketches and determines stock sizes as required
- Operate ironworker, drill, saw and miscellaneous hand and power otools to fabricate parts
- Clean and prepare surfaces to be welded
- Set up, fits, assembles and tack welds parts, constructing special fixtures as required
- Perform gas and electric welding in all positions, down hand, vertical and overhead
- Make any type and size of weld such as "V" lap, butt, pressure and thermal weld, brazing, pre-heating when required
- Build worn or defective surfaces
- Perform work requiring knowledge of the welding properties of various types of metals, welding rods, welding heats, stress relief, allowances for fit up and machining and the effect of warpage, shrinkage and expansion
- Use burning and gouging equipment to dismantle structural and fabricated assemblies for repair or modifications and to cut material to size and shape
- Erect scaffolds as required
- Operate man lift, hoists and cranes
- Keep immediate working area clean
- Create, prepare and complete work orders for maintenance work required
- Reserve and order parts for maintenance work
- Observe all safety rules and exercise all safety precautions
- Adhere to all Gerdau Manitoba CWB & AMSE QC manuals / procedures
- Use tools and equipment that would include (but not limited to) vaious types of gas and electric welding and burning eqiuipment, drawings, cleaning tools, shields, safety equipment, welding fixtures, iron worker, man lift, scaffolds, drill press, power saw, chain falls, miscellaneous hand and power tools and measuring devices
Qualifications and Experience Preferred:
Our ideal candidate will:
- Be a Provincial Licensed Journeyperson Industrial Welder (all positions) and/or have an unrestricted Provincial High Pressure Welder's License. As well will have the ability to successfully maintain these qualifications along with CWB (all positions)
- Have experience preferably in a manufacturing environment
- Have the ability to work in a team environment and with other trades
- Possess strong communication skills and a good work ethic

NATURE & SCOPE:
Plant Operations:
The Regional Energy Manager (REM) supplies energy for several mills within a broad geographical region and serves as a resource for plant management for energy forecasts, communication, and collaboration regarding commercial aspects of energy supply. The successful candidate will:
- consult with plant management/users to adequately meet operational needs;
- analyze, develop and implement effective procurement strategies;
- ensure effective implementation of supply arrangements and efficient use of resources;
- identify and pursue improvement opportunities; and
- ensure compliance with established risk management, accounting, and related policies/procedures.
Procurement and Vendor Relations:
The Regional Energy Manager develops and maintains effective business and professional contacts to keep abreast of market conditions, opportunities, and trends while developing supply sources and maintaining favorable vendor relations. In this position, the REM will:
- prepare requests for proposals and contracts;
- create studies of relevant issues and forecasts;
- maintain adequate files and records to compile periodic reports;
- analyze business unit consumption and requirements for energy-related supplies;
- plan purchases to take advantage of emerging market opportunities, meet inventory goals, and anticipate market conditions within established limits of authority;
- obtain competitive bids as required; and
- negotiate major supply arrangements under the general direction of the Director of Energy.
Advocacy:
The Regional Energy Manager serves as the Company’s representative in commercial, regulatory, and governmental activities necessary to protect and further the interests of Gerdau in areas related to energy. In this position, the REM will:
- represent the Company’s interests in local, state/provincial, and national regulatory and legislative arenas;
- work with associations to advocate for improved energy policy for manufacturers;
- work with professionals, consulting resources, and counsel to secure specialized assistance as required, subject to approved budget.
