Job Summary:
This is a summer student position; applicants must be enrolled in a post-secondary institution. The student labourer is an entry level position, reflecting employees with no previous knowledge or experience related to scrap metals and recycling. The labourer must have the ability to learn and have a strong work ethic. The labourer will assist in several aspects of daily operations such as scrap inspection, sortation, and general yard maintenance as directed. Under the safety standards of Gerdau, the labourer performs general maintenance duties. The labourer must have strong communication skills and always use them to ensure safety among co-workers, truck drivers, peddlers, and contractors. This is a summer position only, beginning in early May 2024 through to the end of August 2024. Typical work week will be Monday through to Friday.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follow all the established Gerdau safety, environmental, and routine procedures specific to the yard
- Assist in the daily operations and maintenance.
- Maintain work area in a clean and orderly fashion
- General house-keeping duties: sweep shop area and removal of garbage
- Assist co-workers in general operational duties that are essential to the yard in terms of safety, efficiency, and profitability

Your Qualifications:

Your Purpose:

- Engage and disengage track switches to switch cars for loading, unloading, making up or breaking up of trains.
- Manually knuckle and un-knuckle rail cars, climb on and off rail cars, and assist in re-railing derailed rail cars.
- Operate scale system via computer and maintain weigh-ticket files while checking for accuracy of scale and related systems.
- Perform a visual inspection of vendor scrap to confirm grades of different types of raw materials and inspect each load for non-conformities.
- Monitor weigh-tickets for accuracy of inventory movement charge numbers.
- Maintain communication with the locomotive operator by radio and hand signals.
- Safety for Rail Contractors making on-site repairs.
- Spot, determine areas of concern on track, gauging issues, broken track, frogs, etc.
- Cleaning and repairing of switches (shimming, butterflies, etc.)
- Repair of run-through switches.
- Maintain awareness of surroundings and activity.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to climb stairs, climb ladders, reach, squat, tolerate prolonged standing or walking, balance, bend, operate mobile equipment, crawl, kneel, and push and pull objects.

Your Qualifications:

Job Overview:
Maintenance Planner will provide coordination, direction, and support for implementing and sustaining Asset Reliability Processes (ARP) to improve safety, equipment reliability, and product quality at optimum efficiency and costs.
This position is primarily responsible for planning and coordinating maintenance activities on equipment. The Maintenance Planner will develop job plans for all planned maintenance, predictive and preventive technologies, in conjunction with technicians, reliability engineers, mill operations, maintenance personnel and suppliers. Main Responsibilities:
Coordinate and manage work order backlog for area of responsibility
Facilitate Down Day and Outage planning process and meetings

Monitor and report Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Ensure timely completion of preventive maintenance and predictive work orders

Your Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in business administration, engineering, economics, or related field is preferred, OR a minimum of five years of indirect procurement experience is required in lieu of a degree.

Your Purpose:
The primary function of this position is the timely and cost-effective procurement of goods and services to support Gerdau’s production plans in the designated region and commodity/category. These activities include but are not limited to, supporting the strategic procurement process, execution of national, regional, and/or local supplier agreements to include team-based bid processes, negotiations, supplier selection/development, and contract management.

- Procure services, prepare purchase orders and/or supply contracts within established policies and procedures, verify purchase order details, and document vendor performance.

Job Description:
Reporting to the Electrical Supervisor, this position's main focus will be to install, construct, adjust, modify and service all types of electronic equipment, including PLC's and electrical or pneumatic controls and instruments.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Receives wiring diagrams, drawings, specifications and instructions covering the scheduled and emergency repair, installation and inspection work to be done.
- Analyzes all types of circuits, wiring diagrams, and drawings as required to install, repair, adjust, calibrate, construct, modify or service all types of electronic devices and systems, including; communication systems, power and distribution control equipment, various mill and production equipment, electronic computing and control systems, electrical and pneumatic controls and instruments, measuring, recording, processing and control devices, indicating devices gauges, etc.
- Plans details of working procedure to determine material or replacement needs and selects a logical approach to “troubleshooting” and repair problems. Answers trouble calls. Makes sketches of parts and layouts; designs and constructs adaptions or conversions of component parts.
- Assembles, inspects, adjusts, repairs, or replaces faulty parts and wiring on all types of electronic devices. Makes mechanical and electrical repairs as required in connection with the servicing of electronic equipment.
- Inspects, dismantles, services, reassembles, tests, and adjusts equipment for safe and proper operation.
- Maintains, installs, or repairs all communication wiring. Climbs on buildings, towers and mill equipment to make inspections, repairs and installations.
- Considers all safety precautions and proper isolations of circuits to cause a minimum of interference to operations. Plan and performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical and electronic principles, wiring specification codes, properties of various materials and principles of operation and application of equipment, etc.
- Fabricates parts as required using machine and hand tools common to the trade.

- The ideal candidate will possess a college Technology diploma in Electrical/Electronics with an Instrumentation and/or Automation speciality

Your Qualifications

Overview

Job Summary:
This is an entry level position for the Solar Pile fabrication facility. This position is responsible for loading, unloading, and transporting of materials to designated locations throughout the Solar Pile Fabrication facility using heavy industrial forklifts or other mobile equipment. Incumbent will be responsible for inspecting incoming material for bar quality and loading/unloading the process conveyor lines to ensure production runs smoothly and efficiently.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Must be capable of safely operating large forklifts, overhead cranes, and other mobile equipment to move material in the solar pile fabrication process. This includes completion of all required pre-use inspections, routine equipment care, and optimizing movement of material for operational efficiency.
2. Accurately follow the production schedule and load conveyor systems with the correct steel product at the infeed.
3. General material handling which includes offloading mill material, loading material onto the infeed table, offloading finished product at the outfeed table, and general movement of inventory and/or materials inside and outside the shop.
4. Maintain accurate production records which may require completion of paper forms or checklists, the use of scanning guns, tablets, computers, et.
5. Assists with inventory management which includes, but is not limited to, accurately identifying and counting bundles, validating the physical location of materials, restocking materials, et.
6. Assists team members with the rework process following established guidelines.
7. Perform quality checks to ensure customers receive prime material that meets their specification and expectations. Visual inspections include but are not limited to: ensuring proper paint color, squareness, length, saw cuts, and overall bar quality.
8. Follow ISO standards and practices striving for zero defects, customer satisfaction and continuous improvement.
Additional Responsibilities:
1. This position will be required to work some overtime, including nights, weekends, and holidays depending on production goals.

Your Purpose
You will report to the Procurement Operations Manager. You will oversee and manage the acquisition of materials, services, and equipment adhering to company standards and established commodity strategies, while ensuring the lowest total cost, desired quality, and required delivery terms.
You will work directly with the Regional and Central Procurement Teams in developing a strategic direction throughout their areas in order to improve profitability and manage working capital. These activities include but are not limited to the execution of supplier agreements and purchase orders, management of supplier quality and performance, conducting cost-savings initiatives, and ensuring compliance to established policies and procedures. You will also be responsible for the supervision and development of a team of Buyers and other Procurement personnel in order to support the business operations.
Your Work
- Maintain a current and thorough knowledge of appropriate local and regional markets and competitive practices.
- Serve as a liaison with the supplier community. You will establish and maintain effective supplier and market relationships to accomplish this goal. Responsibilities include settlement of discrepancies within management guidelines, maintaining standards, and coordinating ongoing supply chain activities within their business division scope. - Oversee the acquisition of capital equipment and ensure that services are carried out according to technical specifications and meeting internal customer needs. Your Purpose
You will report to the Procurement Operations Manager. You will oversee and manage the acquisition of materials, services, and equipment adhering to company standards and established commodity strategies, while ensuring the lowest total cost, desired quality, and required delivery terms.
You will work directly with the Regional and Central Procurement Teams in developing a strategic direction throughout their areas to improve profitability and manage working capital. These activities include but are not limited to the execution of supplier agreements and purchase orders, management of supplier quality and performance, conducting cost-savings initiatives, and ensuring compliance to established policies and procedures. You will also be responsible for the supervision and development of a team of Buyers and other Procurement personnel to support the business operations.
Your Work
- Maintain a current and thorough knowledge of appropriate local and regional markets and competitive practices.
- Serve as a liaison with the supplier community. You will establish and maintain effective supplier and market relationships to accomplish this goal. Responsibilities include settlement of discrepancies within management guidelines, maintaining standards, and coordinating ongoing supply chain activities within their business division scope. - Oversee the acquisition of capital equipment and ensure that services are carried out according to technical specifications and meeting internal customer needs. Additional responsibilities within CAPEX acquisitions will include the effective management of milestone payments; monitoring and expediting equipment manufacturing and construction timelines, and monitoring of the contractual obligations between the supplier and Gerdau. You must have a working knowledge of foreign trade and INCOTERMS as well as contractual terms and conditions related to the purchase of indirect and direct materials and services.
- Resolve discrepancies primarily pertaining to specifications, weight settlement, order requirements, invoice payment and other disputes with suppliers and mill personnel, within established policies. Job Summary:
The Mobile Equipment Operator yard will operate mobile crane, magnet crane, mobile shear, and stationary shear to process scrap materials, load and unload scrap from trucks or railcars, and move scrap within the yard as required.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follow all established Gerdau Safety, Environmental, and Routine procedures specific to the yard.

Job Summary:
The Yard Operator has a variety of duties and a broad skill set that makes this position an important part of operational needs. The Yard Operator requires knowledge of scrap grading, or have the ability to learn. The Yard Operator will assist in several aspects of daily operational needs such as scrap inspection, ferrous and non-ferrous purchasing, mobile equipment operation, and performing general maintenance duties.
The Yard Operator will be expected to safely operate a material handling crane or loader in order to accomplish daily tasks. They must communicate regularly with the scale, supervisor, other coworkers, and customers about the quality of material and shipping requirements.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follow all established Gerdau Safety, Environmental, and Routine procedures specific to the yard.
- Work involves a variety of tasks, simple through moderately complex in nature, requiring some care to ensure correct procedures are being followed.
- Ensure that all incoming scrap is scanned for radiation and that all material that fails the scan is quarantined and the appropriate personnel are notified.
- Operate the loader and/or the material handler to assist in loading and unloading scrap material, while following the quality standards of Gerdau and the customer.
- Ensure that all incoming scrap inspected against quality, and environmental standards and appropriate deductions and downgrades are applied. Communicate findings with the scale in a timely manner.
- Inspect and verify scrap for grade and quality. Identify deductions and downgrades.

- Perform and document daily Routine Equipment Care (REC).

Your Purpose:
You will be responsible for some duties primarily servicing the ladle metallurgy station, the casting machine billet run-out area, ladles, electric arc furnace, and the brick crew operations.
Your Work:
- Will involve simple routine tasks and physical in nature, requiring some care to safely use heavy tools in digging out ladles, shoveling materials, taking temperatures, and obtaining samples at the Ladle Metalurgical Station (LMS), and when operating the forklift and bobcat.
- Will assist LMS Operator when making alloy and slag additions, taking temperature, and assisting with lancing heats.
- Will assist the brick crew with removing refractories from used ladles, tundishes, etc. using heavy pry bars and pneumatic tools, shovel, and dump out brick and slag refuse.
- Will assist in cleaning furnace and surrounding pit area, ladle car track area, tilt cylinders, casting spray changer, and billet run-out area during downtime using hand tools such as a shovel, picks, crowbar, cutting torch, and broom.
- Will assist in hooking up, setting and unhooking ladles, materials, etc. in conjunction with the crane.
- Will assist casting crew with torch cutting scrap billets when necessary.
- Will assist the operator of the track mobile in switching scrap into the stock house.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Job Summary:
Reporting to the Roll Shop Supervisor, this position's main focus will be to set up and operate a computer numerically controlled lathe to machine all types of new and used rolls to finished size and contour for all sections rolled in the Mill.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plans working procedures from instructions, prints, computer programs, and work orders
- Slings rolls and places them in a lathe using a crane
- Centers and fastens roll in the lathe
- Barrels new rolls
- Selects and profiles cutting tools for the job in accordance with hardness, machinability, desired contour, and surface of the roll to be turned and set up in the tool holder
- Sets up and operates CNC lathe to turn any type of roll to finished size within close tolerances
- Selects and adjusts speeds and feeds for material to be cut
- Turns rolls to specifications and intermittently checks dimensions for compliance using a protractor, calipers, micrometers, rulers, straights edge, pass templates, and thickness gauges.
- Observes turning of roll, interrupts upon deviation from specifications, and corrects minor errors in a computer program by manually overriding computer
- Operates lathe manually to complete finishing of the roll such as taking out points, blending radii, and using plugs
- Operates milling machine to cut deformations in rolls
- Operates electric discharge machine (EDM) to brand rolls
- Inspects and lubricate equipment

Job Summary:
This position monitors and assists in controlling incoming and outgoing vehicles, shipments and containers through use scale and software systems. All activity must be accounted for and accurately documented on scale tickets, bills of lading, purchase orders and packing slips, etc.
Nature and Scope:
Directly reporting to the Division Manager, the Scale Operator must regularly communicate with dispatch personnel and other scale operators to assist with company vehicle traffic and all incoming and outgoing yard traffic. This position interacts frequently with yard operations including but not limited to emergency contact for yard operations, material receiving personnel, internal and external drivers as well as management, sales and I.T. personnel.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Enthusiastic greeting of customers and ascertain material grade including all necessary paperwork needed to safely direct all incoming loads to the proper locations throughout the facility.
- Ensure accurate documentation of all inbound and outbound scale transactions by weighing of all customers vehicles, carriers, and company vehicles on main scale. Record supplier, truck or car identification, contract number (if appropriate), description and grade of material, gross, tare and net weights, and discharge location of the load. This includes accurate recording of load deductions (non-conforming material), re-pricing as directed by Buyers, printing and distributing scale tickets as required.
- Maintain daily records of all purchases and sales transactions including proper assignment of purchase and sales order numbers to inbound and outbound material.
- Process scale payments including processing payment adjustments; contact the Buyer to adjust or add in contracts; remove temporary pricing, address and mail out payments as per customer request, fax scale tickets to customers as per their request.
- Create issue and submit cheques to the proper signing authority with proper back up documentation and distribute as requested.
- Issue cash payments for customers that require immediate payment.
- Must be able to manage difficult customer situations effectively and professionally.
- Answer main telephone line and redirect all calls accordingly.

Qualifications:
- Technical Expertise: Proven maintenance experience (3-5 years) in an industrial setting, preferably with heavy machinery. Knowledge of AC/DC motors, gearbox mechanics, welding, and common maintenance tools.

Your Qualifications:
- Basic computer skills.
- 3 years of overhead cab crane experience is required.
- Ability to work as part of a self-directed team with limited supervision.
- Ability to work a (Dupont Schedule) 12 hr rotating shift, days, nights and two weekends a month.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work in temperatures up to 160 degrees.
- Ability to work in cramped quarters and at heights up to 150 ft.
Your Purpose:
You will operate an overhead cab crane to lift and transfer the scrap bucket from the scrap loading area to the furnace for charging. Transport raw materials to the floor, add alloys in the furnace/bins, perform electrode addition functions, and position furnace roof, shell, and equipment during maintenance activities. Follow established material handling practices and procedures combined with directives from melt shop floor personnel. Cab is sealed and air conditioned.
Your Work:
- Operate a 270 ton overhead charging crane to pick-up and transport scrap bucket from scrap loading area to the furnace for charging. Lift, move, and position raw materials and refill material bins as needed. Perform electrode addition functions.
- Use judgment to plan, perform, and make decisions as to the sequence of material movement and handling procedures required to service melt shop area in a timely and efficient manner.
- Manipulate or depress crane controls such as pedals/levers to regulate speed and direction of crane and hoist movement.
- Inspect crane for defective parts and notify supervisor of defects or malfunctions.
- Unload, transfer, and aid in placing equipment, parts, electrodes, and other supplies.
- May serve as a Relief Ladle Crane Operator when regularly assigned operator is unavailable.
- Perform other crane handling operations in the melt shop as directed according to operational requirements.
- May include removal of slag pot.
- Perform routine equipment care, and record and inspect vehicles and mobile equipment, which may include fueling, cleaning, and checking/adding fluids as needed.

What The Position Entails
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, this position’s job responsibilities include:
Lay out, install, maintain, repair plant pipelines, fittings, and fixtures
Set up and operate bending, threading, and cut-off equipment to shape and fabricate pipe for installation
Test, inspect, dismantle, repair, replace or install any type of pressure piping, fittings, and fixtures for air, water, steam, oil, gas
Read and interpret drawings and sketches
Prepare material lists and trade calculations
Operate material handling equipment such as cranes, tow motor operation including rigging
Operate mobile equipment such as zoom boom, scissor lift, etc.

JOB SUMMARY
This project management position also serves in an advisory or consulting capacity coach to all levels of employees, contractors, and plant management. The Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager for the Whitby and Cambridge Mills and will actively participate in the technical development for the Engineering department and maintenance personnel. This position has direct responsibility for specific projects with medium complexity and values ranging from $50,000 up to $5,000,000 or more. The incumbent will be required to travel, possibly for an extended period, to work on CAPEX projects. Project managers at Gerdau are responsible for all aspects of projects; from the development of the investment proposal, to engineering and design, to overseeing fabrication, to construction supervision, and finally to the training of operators and tradespeople.
An Engineer is expected to have valuable experience that improves the quality of execution of projects within the steel industry. The incumbent must have an engineering specialty in at least one field that is applicable to Gerdau’s operations in Ontario, and they must be able to provide value to the business in that field. The applicant must have at least 5 years of previous experience in heavy industry.
WHAT THE JOB ENTAILS
- Project Manager for CAPEX and non-CAPEX projects at the Whitby Mill.
- May be required to complete some projects at our Cambridge Mill
- Working with medium and high voltage power distribution systems and components
- Protection & control circuits and logics
- Conducting power engineering design and analysis
- Working with PLC based industrial control systems and SCADA systems
- Working with AC and DC drives to control large motors
- Working and trouble shooting industrial automation networks
- Executing large scale electrical and automation installation projects
- Integrate new technologies into the plant.
- Train and develop employees in technical and/or project related information.
- Conduct Technical Studies to support CAPEX investments.
- Support process improvement projects where applicable.
- Support operation of the onsite substation and liaise with utility provider as required to maintain compliance with all applicable regulations. Oversee substation modifications, upgrades, and maintenance activities.
- Development and management of internal engineering and/or project management procedures.
- Create, review, approve and issue engineering drawings as required for modifications, installations, and maintenance/repair purposes. Stamping of drawings is not required.
- Must stay abreast of current technologies.
- Provide engineering services for department projects and cost justification.
- Assist in preparing, reviewing and troubleshooting programs for the plant PLCs and computer control systems.
- Travel will be required, approximately 1 week per quarter.
WHAT YOU HAVE TO OFFER
- Four-year Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of industrial experience.
- Specialty in steel-related field.
- Knowledge of engineering and construction techniques used in industrial design, construction, operation, and maintenance.
- Ability to apply engineering fundamentals to the continuous improvement efforts of CAPEX and maximize the efficiency of the overall department operation.
- Good communication skills, ability to articulate ideas, detail oriented, and comfortable dealing with associates at all levels within the organization.

BASIC FUNCTION:
Primary functions are tax compliance for the Company and its subsidiaries. Primarily responsible for the preparation of all sales and use, property, fuel, intangible federal excise, and occupational tax returns and timely payment of associated taxes. Communicates effectively with taxing authorities to resolve any disputed items. Assists with sales and use, property, and fuel tax audits. Assists in preparation of various tax analysis, general ledger account reconciliation, tax accrual calculations, and other duties as assigned by the State/Local Tax Manager or the Senior Tax Accountant.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
The Tax Accountant reports directly to the State/Local Tax Manager who reports to the Director of Taxes. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
This position is responsible for:
- The preparation of the Company’s sales and use tax, real and personal property tax, fuel oil and mileage tax returns.
- State and Local tax compliance by completing and filing all returns, tax research and analysis as necessary to maintain compliance.
- Registration and renewal with state and local entities where the Company has locations, has employees or does business to obtain business licenses, tax identification numbers, etc.
- Filing annual reports as required by various state and local entities where the Company has a business presence.
- Assisting with sales/use tax audits, real/personal property tax audits, etc. and negotiating with taxing authorities on behalf of the Company to minimize assessments and taxes while remaining in compliance with tax regulations.
- Calculating and reconciling to the general ledger, property tax accruals for all Company locations and cost centers and communicating significant changes or variances to division managers and controllers.
- Filing tax refund claims with taxing jurisdictions where the company is due tax credits or tax refunds.
- Reconciling sales and use tax liability general ledger accounts on a regular monthly basis.
- Assisting corporate and division personnel with local tax issues, tax research and recommendations.
- Providing feedback to management on strategies and ideas to minimize taxes and/or reduce expenses while remaining in compliance with all tax laws and regulations.
- Maintaining tax records as required by Company polices and appropriate tax regulations.

Job Scope:
This position should have a broad knowledge of tax regulations and procedures plus a general knowledge of accounting and accounting principles. The position requires a four year degree in accounting or related business field, plus 3 to 5 years of hands-on work experience preferably in the manufacturing environment.
This position requires excellent communication skills, both oral and written, to communicate with taxing authorities and to interface with upper and middle management of the Company.
This position requires proficient computer skills in MS Office, including Outlook, Word, Access, Power Point, and especially Excel. Also, this position requires the use of software packages for tax preparation, tax filing, tax research, and financial systems (general ledger, fixed assets, construction in progress, accounts payable, purchasing, accounts receivable, sales, invoicing, etc.) Especially preferred software includes: Lawson, SAP, Crystal, and Order Entry.
This position requires the individual to stay current on tax regulations and laws affecting the Company both at a corporate and division level. The person in this position should use subscription to tax publications, attend tax seminars, etc. to remain current on relevant taxes.
This position may require travel when necessary to visit Company locations, attend meetings or hearings with local taxing authorities, attend training seminars, etc.
