16-Month Asset Reliability Internship – Gerdau Whitby Mill

Please note important information regarding this job opportunity:

  • This job opportunity is a 16-month contract position commencing May 2025. Candidates MUST be able to work the full 16-months at full-time capacity. We currently do not honour internships of a shorter duration.

  • This job opportunity is tailored towards third year Bachelor's of Engineering Students currently enrolled at recognized accredited University. Candidates MUST be returning to full-time studies following this internship.

  • This job opportunity is fully onsite. There are no opportunities for remote work. Candidates MUST be in commutable distance from the facility located at 1 Gerdau Court in Whitby, ON.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

This position will work out of our Maintenance and Asset Reliability Process (ARP) department completing various administrative tasks and projects. This position will be a full-time, 16-month long internship opportunity.

 

Reliability Engineering:

  • Perform criticality analysis and Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA)

  • Develop equipment maintenance plans

  • Identify spare part requirements & support storeroom optimization efforts

  • Analyze process data to improve Key Performance Indicators

  • Coordinate the management of maintenance documents (Manuals, Drawings, Technical Specifications)

  • Help the Maintenance & Reliability Department Plan and Execute our Annual Action Plan for 2025.

  • Support process improvements through participation in formal Failure Analysis.

Leadership Skills

  • Introduction to managing a process in a unionized heavy manufacturing facility.

  • The opportunity to train the incoming intern in 2026 as they hand off their responsibilities and transfer part of their learnings.

Softwares:

  • Microsoft suite, SAP, AutoCAD, etc.

Gerdau is seeking university students to participate in our G. Start program. G. Start is a paid internship program with the goal of developing students for future technical and managerial positions. This program is for individuals with high learning agility and willingness to adapt and develop continuously, who aim at consistently outperforming in a variety of settings and circumstances.

    • Undergraduate entering third year.
    • Pursing a degree in Mechanical, Electrical or related from a recognized accredited college or university.
    • Record of high academic achievement (GPA 3.0 or higher preferred).
    • Well-rounded applicants with leadership roles in student organizations or extra-curricular activities.
    • Must be legally authorized to work full-time in the country of hire without requiring current or future sponsorship for employment.
    • Candidates much demonstrate leadership potential, strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, initiative, and problem-solving skill.
