BASIC FUNCTION:

As part of the North American logistics team, provide analysis, technical support, and carrier communications to maintain transportation structures, systems, and ongoing freight services for Gerdau Long Steel North America.  Responsible for assisting with the negotiation of proposals, establishing and verifying shipping procedures, and analyzing shipping data in order to look for opportunities and identify market trends. Assists in the development of policies, guidelines, and procedures to ensure high-quality, low cost shipping opportunities.  This position will assist regional logistics managers in soliciting quotes and maintaining rate and freight tracking systems.  May serve as a conduit to mill logistics managers, fulfillment, dispatch, and warehouse teams.  This position reports to one of the corporate regional logistics managers.

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field from an accredited college or university, combined with 2-4 years of experience in a logistics-related field or equivalent.

  • Logistic Analysts should have a fundamental knowledge of Freight concepts, practices and procedures and a strong analytical and mathematical aptitude.
  • Ability to adapt to varied situations, circumstances, and personalities
  • Ability to analyze data sets, assess trends or patterns and make recommendations based on data (quantitative) and situational factors (qualitative). 
  • Must be able to simplify data to arrive at main conclusions, key presentation and discussion points.
  • Excellent verbal, presentation, and written communication skills.
  • General experience with the use of logistics systems/relational data bases and query/report development.
  • MS office proficiency and Advanced Excel skills required.
  • Ability to interpret functional and vendor specifications.
  • Must be able to assist and support ongoing logistics projects.

Day-to-day - 

The incumbent will maintain physical carrier files and contracts, and is well-versed in using and reporting from the freight tracking system.  The Logistics Analyst II may coordinate activities with the Mill Logistics Managers, warehouse and dispatch teams in order to cascade and maintain logistics policies.  Logistic Analyst may train new users on freight tracking systems.  The incumbent prepares and files Freight Claim documentation with Transportation Vendors in accordance with policy, and disseminates claim information to Gerdau logistics, commercial, and financial personnel as needed.

Conducts distribution and network studies, monitors inventory and analyzes requirements to develop strategies to achieve desired delivery times and order fill rates. Maintains appropriate records and prepares reports. Coordinates logistics activities with internal/external customers.

Incumbent works independently to analyze, summarize, and disseminate large amounts of highly confidential and classified information.  Incumbent also independently analyzes new rate proposals, economic conditions, increases, and rate changes as needed to determine carrier competitiveness.  Based on the needs and demands of  Gerdau, the incumbent will advise on the  acceptance or rejection of carrier rate proposals.

The Logistic Analyst also has responsibility for maintaining freight systems (SAP, Transporeon, etc.) by providing necessary information to finance, accounting, IT, Filfillment, Pricing, and other stakeholders.

On a daily basis, incumbent  works with outside transportation service providers, Gerdau departments and locations, regional transportation managers, and mill shipping supervisors to obtain and provide information to meet logistics needs.  The LA will also monitor, track, and assess Carrier performance to provide statistics and ongoing concern to the Regional Managers for action or FCA management. This position also maintains the fuel surcharge table as the National Fuel Index dictates to ensure that a correct fuel surcharge is added to the delivery ticket for auto-payment to carriers

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Ensures that all day to day activities associated with the management of Freight Systems are efficiently and accurately administered in compliance with applicable federal and state regulations and company policy, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Participate and provide support during annual/regular processes in the Logistics department.
  • Partner with and support field Logistics requests in all areas of Logistics
  • Participate in benchmarking activities that support the Logistics area on a regular (i.e., annual) or ad-hoc basis.
  • Assist, respond to and support audit requests from external and internal parties.  Document internal processes, procedures and administration as appropriate for audit requirements. Facilitates annual audit preparation and completion.
  • Develop and document internal processes and procedures to support consistency, process improvement and simplicity in the Logistics area.
  • Support special projects and GLN-wide actions.
  • Proactively identify Logistics challenges and opportunities and recommend creative and practical solutions and strategies to resolve challenges and/or capitalize on opportunities.
  • Assists in the development of training / educational programs and participates in the delivery of Logistics training. 
  • Partner and work in collaboration with many cross-functional departments such as Accounting, S&OP, Fulfillment, Sales, Manufacturing Operations, etc. on company-wide initiatives and multi-department projects.
  • Ensure constant data integrity with internal systems (ex: SAP), external systems (ex: Transporeon), vendor file interfaces, etc.
  • Primary liaison with IT and Shared Services in the development, testing, implementation, and post-production review of all SAP changes and configuration requests related to Logistics.
  • Acts as center of excellence for preparing reports and presentations for department members.
  • Assists with analyzing data to assist management with department budget monitoring (Expense Management).  Assists with budget reviews and monitoring payments.
  • Assists with reconciliation, payment and monitoring of vendors. This may include Accounts Payable payments, and analyzing performance standards for outside Logistics vendors.
  • Develops employee Logistics communications and education.
  • Other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
