Maintenance Trainee Program
Job Summary:
Plan, layout and perform all operations pertaining to the installation, maintenance and repair of a wide
range of complex steel mill equipment utilized by the Rolling Mill, Melt Shop, Logistics, etc. Perform
diagnostics and work in many varied and diversified capacities required in highly technical maintenance,
overhaul, and repair.
Requirements:
Successful completion of all requirements necessary.
Advanced knowledge of mechanics, controls, hydraulics, pneumatics, pipe fitting, bearings,
couplings, pumps, HVAC
Proficient in all position welding (Stick, MIG, TIG, Plasma arc cutting) demonstrated with handson basic welding test. Welding test will consist of 1” bend test. The test sample will be sent
offsite for testing. The test will also consist of fabricating an assembly per print “Welder
Workmanship Test Bracket”. The fabrication will be sent offsite for testing.
Proficient in basic machine shop equipment (lathes, boring equipment, etc.)
Certification in fork truck, various overhead cranes (remote and pendant), man-lift, scissor lift,
and other mobile equipment as required in maintenance activities.
Ability to create, update and comprehend blueprints for welding and other applications
Associates degree in Maintenance Technology or similar technical discipline.
Attainment of Level 1 Certification or equivalent in 2 of the Predictive Maintenance (PdM)
technologies. (Vibration, Infra-red, Oil Analysis, UE, MCE).
Mentor and coach Maintenance Technicians I and II personnel as well as Apprentice trainees.
Proficiency in Business system technology to assist in attainment of parts by entering Shopping
Carts in purchasing system.
Primary Function:
To inspect, repair, and make welding repairs as necessary, replace, install, adjust, and maintain all
mechanical equipment, including hydraulic equipment, in a production unit or assigned areas.
Tools and Equipment:
Drill press, power saw, chain fall, burning equipment, portable drill and grinder, miscellaneous stores materials, hand tools, measuring devices, packing tools, safety equipment, pipe machine, PdM tools and Instrumentation/ calibration equipment Materials: Plant mechanical equipment, repair parts, lubricants, hardware, packing, miscellaneous stores materials, pipe, hydraulic fluid, valves, regulators, pumps, cylinders, etc.
Direction Exercised:
Works alone (except where hazards exist) or provides guidance to other work-persons as required or
directs other work persons as required.
Working Procedures:
1. Employees will complete all required regulatory/safety training & will follow all safety rules &
requirements.
2. Effectively and efficiently diagnose, dismantle, repair, lubricate, reassemble or otherwise perform
general as well as highly technical and specific maintenance including mechanical, electrical,
electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting and repair including the use of predictive
technologies in the capacities of pipefitter, welder, millwright, assembler, installer, etc.
3. Utilize mechanical and electronic diagnostic equipment, computer equipment, PLC’s, and/or a
variety of precision instruments as necessary.
4. Perform preventive/predictive maintenance, including but not limited to inspecting, adjusting,
cleaning, and/or lubricating equipment
5. Install new and existing equipment
6. Perform mechanical repairs on mobile equipment, including cranes
7. Tear down, replace, repair, assemble and install equipment, parts, components and accessories
8. Utilize all required computer systems for planning, executing, and reporting
9. Play a key role in improvement project implementation
10. Mentor and coach Maintenance Technician I and II level and Trainees
11. Oversee the implementation of 5S programs
12. Utilize PdM training and equipment to identify status of equipment.
13. Perform other duties and work assignments as required and directed
