Your Qualifications: 

  • The desire to learn new roles and grow with the company
  • A completed High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
  • 1-3 years of industrial or manufacturing experience to include operating heavy mobile equipment 
  • Flexibility to work a rotating 12 hr shift, days, nights and weekends 
  •  Ability to climb stairs, climb ladders, reach, squat, tolerate prolonged sitting, standing or walking, balance, bend, operate mobile equipment, crawl, kneel, lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in cramped quarters, heights, extreme temperature conditions.

 

Your Purpose: 

Perform a wide variety of supplementary duties within the melt shop and other plant areas within a team.  

 

Your Work:

  • Involves a variety of simple, manual tasks, receiving guidance, and specific instructions from Melt Shift Supervisor and furnace crews.
  • Perform repetitive work around the furnace area to supply raw materials for the melting process such as adding alloys, fluxes, refractories, etc.
  • Cut unprepared scrap in the yard with a cutting torch for the electric furnace.
  • Through on the job training, must become certified on Billet Yard Crane in order to serve as a relief operator.  This requires proficiency in operating the crane and assisting with routine and preventative maintenance.  Safely operate overhead Billet Crane to warehouse billets between the casting and rolling process.
  • As needed, function as a Caster Cutting Attendant.  This requires versatility to adequately carry out the normal machine operator duties for each job performed and participating in housekeeping activities in the casting area.
  • Clean machinery and other equipment or apparatus, assist maintenance personnel, as needed handling tools, parts, and perform routine maintenance on any equipment used.
  • Perform material handling duties by unloading trucks transporting supplies and parts to the warehouse, stock room, or work areas.
  • Use hand tools such as a shovel, pick, sledgehammer, crowbar, broom, and rake; equipment such as hand trucks, dollies, jack, pneumatic hammer, as well as operate forklifts, front-end loaders, and bobcats to perform daily tasks and to get up stock for the furnace.
  • Assist with hanging electrodes, taking temperatures and samples at the furnace, and adding necessary alloys at the tap as directed.  Required to function as an Electric Furnace Helper as needed.
