The primary role of this position is to identify, develop, and implement opportunities for improvement in processes, products, and production within the Melt Shop. Responsibilities include the development of new standards and the refinement of existing standards, structures, systems, and equipment to ensure process efficiency and effectiveness.
The incumbent is responsible for driving continuous improvement through the application of methodologies, QIS improvement principles, and technical and engineering tools, working in close coordination with the appropriate Superintendent, Routine Facilitator, and operational staff within the assigned area of responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and coordinate continuous improvement initiatives within the Melt Shop.
• Develop, implement, and adjust operational standards, systems, and equipment.
• Ensure efficiency and effectiveness of all improvement efforts.
• Apply QIS, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies.
• Support and oversee 5S initiatives, failure analysis, results management, and safety activities.
• Coordinate and manage CAPEX projects, including data compilation and analysis.
• Assist location management with the Annual Action Plan and administration of policies, procedures, and processes.
• Coach and train employees on improvement methodologies and operational excellence tools.
• Act as a change agent, motivating and influencing employees at all organizational levels.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or Materials Science.
• 3–5 years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Strong working knowledge of steel manufacturing processes and heavy mill machinery.
• Previous experience in scrap processing, melting, refining, casting, refractory operations, and supervisory or facilitation roles is required.
• Demonstrated advanced knowledge of business systems and complex technical and engineering processes.
• Proven ability to train, coach, and develop employees.
• Strong presentation, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Detail-oriented, results-driven, and capable of working effectively with employees at all organizational levels.
Reporting Relationship & Scope
• Reports directly to the Department Superintendent.
• Coordinates closely with cross-functional groups across the facility.
• Responsible for supporting and contributing to training and development activities for site employees.
• Role encompasses a moderate scope and breadth of responsibility, covering manufacturing processes, complex equipment, and a moderate level of budget and CAPEX oversight.
The incumbent must be responsible for the safety of all individuals who work under his/her management, seeking continuous improvement related to employee’s health and safety, environment and the process efficiency and customer’s satisfaction with the quality of products and services. All efforts must be directed for preventive actions.
