JOB: Hydraulic Repair Technician “A”
SCOPE
Primary: - Inspects plant hydraulic equipment for defects, such as misalignment, wear, insufficient lubrication, etc.
- Troubleshoots and analyzes repair, installation and determines best way of making repairs to minimize interruption of production.
- Advises when immediate shutdown of equipment is necessary to minimize damage or when temporarily continued operation will have no harmful effect.
- Dismantles, cleans, repairs, replaces, installs, maintains, assembles and lubricates hydraulic and mechanical equipment.
- Adjust equipment for proper operating characteristics, making either temporary or permanent repairs.
- Operates machine tools, such as drill press, pipe threading machine, power tools, etc.
- Performs all rigging as necessary.
- Performs pipefitting and other repairs of hydraulic lines as required and fabricates hose assemblies.
- Assembles or align gears, bearing and shafts, involving press, sliding and running fits in hydraulic pumps.
- Changes, sets up and adjust equipment as required by current operating equipment conditions.
- Designs alterations to existing hydraulic system.
- Performs minor electrical work required in the servicing, installation and repair of directional valves. Solenoids, etc.
- Reads, understands schematics, drawing and makes sketches if necessary for repair or installation work.
- Documents all work performed on Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- All other tasks assigned by management.
Secondary: - Works with repair crew on emergency and other breakdowns as required.
- Purchases part for hydraulic systems and assures that necessary spare parts and assemblies are available.
- Performs light welding where required in association with routine/emergency repair or installation work.
- Observes good housekeeping and safety on the job site, hydraulic repair shop and maintenance shop.
- Utilization of EMM and GBS concepts.
>TRAINING AND/OR BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS:
- 1 year hydraulics experience and Hydraulics Journeyman’s Card or
- 6 years hydraulics experience without Journeyman's Card
- High school diploma or GED and
NEW/EXISTING EMPLOYEES MUST ALSO HAVE THE FOLLOWING:
- Pass all testing requirements
- Complete training checklist for this position

QUALITY RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Machinery must be maintained to obtain the highest quality possible
- Employee will follow current Quality System policies and practices to strive for zero defects and continuous improvements.
SAFETY RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Must lock out all equipment prior to repairing it.
- Must perform all repairs following Gerdau Safety Policies.
- Observe and follow all departmental safety rules and regulations (inc. Cardinal Safety Rules).
COST/PRODUCTION RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES:
- All equipment must be maintained to minimize plant down time.
ENVIRONMENTAL RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Employee is expected to know, understand, and follow all applicable Federal, State, and Local environmental legal requirements and practices.
- Responsible for and completing all required annual safety and environmental training (inc. fugitive dust).
- Responsible for spill prevention, containment, response and clean up or assist in clean up of material spills.
- Tasks which have significant environmental impacts are (i.e. process pond water, spill prevention, KO61 dust (bag house dust) PM’s and calibration of equipment).

Job summary:
Reporting to the location's Operations Manager, your focus will be to lead operation in our steel manufacturing facility ensuring that production goals are achieved without compromising safety, quality or efficiency. Our ideal candidate will champion a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
Your primary duties and responsibilities will be to:
- Enforce all safety protocol, ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations
- Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence
- Conduct regular safety audits, toolbox talks, risk assessments
- Supervise and coordinate plant operations, including production, maintenance and quality control
- Train and mentor team members on safe work practices and operational excellence
- Monitor production schedules and allocate resources effectively
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety and efficiency
Our ideal candidate will have the following education / experience:
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of supervisory experience in steel manufacturing or heavy industrial production
- A strong knowledge of steel production processes and safety standards along with having the proven ability to lead teams and foster a safety first culture
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and production management systems
- Excellent communication and problem solving skills
- A diploma or degree in Engineering, Manufacturing or a related field would be considered an asset

The Plant Utility employee is responsible for performing all rework functions as necessary with respect to NDT lines, Autoline, and/or the rework grinding tables. This position will report to the Rework Facilitator(s).
Operation of grinding equipment for surface conditioning and bar end regrinds. Operation of banding equipment. Calibration of hand tools and/or precision equipment as needed. Inspect product and documents to ensure that the product meets all product specifications requirements. Adherence to standards and procedures in regards to bar identification, bar accountability, and record keeping. Operate pendant and/or remote control overhead cranes.

Reporting to the Engineer Manager, you will be responsible for both capital project management and engineering design support of improvement and reliability inititatives in all areas of the Steel Mill. This position works closely with various production area staff and maintenance personnel in pursuit of increased safety for employees and contractors, increased quality of the final product, increased production capabilities, and cost efficiency improvements. This position includes a balance of long term strategic project planning and execution while also supporting the fast paced day to day operations in the maintennace and production areas. This position provides a dynamic work envionment with new challenges every day while also providing the satisfaction of a long term project seen from concept to completion.
Our successful candidate will have:
- A minimum of 5 years electrical engineering and project management experience in a related field; 10+ years experience preferred
- Solid technical communication skills, both verbal and written
- Electrical and automation (PLC) design experience
- Drafting (CAD) experience
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; self-initiative and ability to be self-led
- Previous work experience in the metals industry or an industrial environment will be considered an asset
Preference will be given to candidates with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical engineering from an accredited university.

ABOUT THE ROLE:
